I usually do, but this year I'm not shooting does at my place. I only saw one doe there last fall all season. I have some other properties with better deer numbers, so it will be game on if I see a doe there.
Most of the areas that I hunt went to buck only this year. I do have one spot that I can and will take a doe if the situation presents itself.
Last year I killed 8 does, probably be about the same this year. However I may wait till late season to really start filling the freezer.
I did last year we shall see if I can kill something opening morning. If not it will most likely be a week or two in before I shoot at a doe. New property I'm hunting has a few nice bucks and I'd like to concentrate on them or a while.
I try to get a doe as soon as possible unless I've got a buck patterned where I'm hunting. Did that last year and didn't even take a doe. I was too focused on my target buck. I ended up taking him on the first day of gun season after he slipped me a few times bowhunting. Ended up putting up a goose egg last year for the team. The year before I put up 190+ worth of points. Hoping for a good year this year. Here's a trailcam video of the buck I ended up taking last year during gun season giving me the slip for the 3rd time during bow season. I hunted this food plot on 10/30 and 11/1. This video was taken on 10/31. He walked 15 yards from my tree...
We'll fellas, by the looks of things we should be putting down some does with our bucks! I say it every year but it's the truth... "Need to get the does to have any chance of winning this thing".
My freezer is plum full right now but I'll put a doe down anyway even if I have to donate it to the Missouri share the harvest program.
Here's my #1 target buck for the third consecutive year, he's proven to be an admirable component. Seen him once in stand in 2012 late season and twice early season in 2013. I had him patterned all too well last season and knew I had to arrow him before the beans came out. My problem was the entrance of my place is nothing but bean fields so I had no cover. I tried to cross the bean field at 5 a.m. opening day and got busted. His movement has been much more sporadic this year I don't have him pinned down at all except for he is notoriously moving right at noon so there will be many all day sits this year.
