Have any of your noticed that you don't see deer when there is zero wind?

I don't notice it at all, see plenty of movement on calm days. I think we as hunters try to think up too many reasons for unsuccessful days in the field.

I actually see more deer with no to little wind where I hunt. I usually have less deer with more wind. I always blame clear skies with not seeing deer.

I seem to think I see more deer on bright sunny days. My cousin swears by fog or rain, but I have had no luck on these days.

Usually i don't see many deer on super calm days. Bill Winke said he thinks they just stand back and listen until about dark and then start moving.

I prefer a little breeze, but I don't think it's a big factor on deer movement. It may be a factor for deer sightings, though. With the calmness, all your movement and noise will be amplified and easy for the deer to pick up.

I don't believe in this crap about deer don't move in certain strength of wind. These are animals designed to live in the outdoors. They survive the coldest of the winters, the hottest of the summers, the strongest storms and heaviest winds. They don't give a flying f%#^ if its breezy out. I think hunting in heavy wind is more a safety issue. Tree stands can be dangerous. But if you have a ground blind or something that is safe in the wind. By all means get out there. I have a food plot literally in my backyard. So I can see the deer from my window. So having this is I can truly bust all these weather myths. I see deer on a regular basis at various parts of the year. And I can assure you where I live it's always windy. I have seen them feeding on my plot while the trees were sideways. I have also seen them while the rain was falling sideways. They ate like it wasn't even their. I've also seen them in the worst snow storms. I must say the only time I have not seen them. Is in lightning.

I don't know about yall but my deer didn't like windy, calm, rainy, sunny, foggy, or clear days this year... They must have been on strike for me killing granddaddy last year...

I like still cold mornings the best. You can hear them coming for a long way off done side is that your stuff has to be quiet else they will pick you off.

Its funny! I saw the biggest buck of the season this year on the windiest day. It was 40 mph winds with gust of 60 mph. And there he was walking around a hour before dark and walking with the wind. For the most part I see more deer with less wind.

IMHO, part of it is how safe the deer feel. With some wind, they can get a good read on where danger is. With no wind, or shifting wind, scents aren't picked up from as great a distance or they have a tougher time pinpointing the source. With a lot of wind, it's harder to see movement and scents get diluted.
I've had too many "perfect" days - cloudy, no wind - where the deer don't move like I thought they would. Too many sunny, windy days where they piled out into the fields.
No absolutes. YMMV. The deer on one farm I hunt, hate frost - go figure.

depends on temp here in the south.. on warm bluebird windless days you see very little if any movement, on cool or cold windless days they tend to move more, and if it is really cold and frosty they will lay up till mid morning..I have kept a hand written deer log for almost 30 years..

I agree with you for the most part... the biggest problem we as hunters make is to apply the way weather affect us rather then the way it affects the deer..

Deer definitely move according to the weather, most of us just don't understand what they are doing and why. Cool still morning are my favorite times in the woods. It's when my deer seem to be the most at ease. If they are moving on a really windy day, the are usually moving with a purpose and not lingering around too much out in the open.

Hardest part of hunting those times when there's no wind is getting to the stand without busting the deer out of there.

I've always had my best hunts on days when it's calm with hardly any wind. Seems every time I go out on a windy day I might see deer but they're much more on the alert and spooky.

Get up on higher terrain on days with no wind. When in lower bowls of terrain the deer can't figure out where certain scents are coming from since there's no wind and scent just sits there stagnant. They go to higher terrain trying to catch a breeze so they can continue to travel with the wind in their favor like they normally do. At least that's my experience.

I have to say that when it is dead calm, I rarely see Deer as well. I think they just sit tight until it's dark, and then they move. I usually hear them moving as I'm packing up.
