Is there a sight system that does not require a peep?

I know a guy who just doesn't use a peep, but you got have a perfect anchor every time.

I went without a peep for awhile, it isn't very hard to shoot accurately without a peep as long as your form is good.

I used to shoot a product called "No Peep Sight" and it worked quite well. The company went out of business, but there another product that is very close to it available if you looh about enough. If works by seting it up at an anchorpoint. once set, you line a buble inside a circle and then set your pin on target.

I just found this item and it looks like a great idea.

I like it better than the Hind sight, because it takes up less axial distance and it looks to be friendlier to my old man eyes in low light.

I don't have much trouble setting them up but they do require more tinkering than a regular sight. (because you want the crosshairs to naturally line up, not be forced)

The thing that is awesome about a hind sight is that it will show you when you are torquing the bow. You can force a peep to line up even if you have the bow way hinky... and you're shot will be off. You can't get away with that with the hind sight. This is very important in real hunting situations when you can do a perfect form draw and anchor.

Robin hooded at 50 yards on the third arrow using a No Peep and my old High Country Four Runner. The No Peep will make you a better shooter, but it suffered from two drawbacks. First the fiber optics designed to allow you to shoot in low light were weak and therefore worse than using a peep in low light. Second, the No Peep required additional cognitive loading, because putting the pin on target and looking to ensure the bubble is inside a circle are separate tasks. during the moment of truth, it's a easy enough to line up the pin and forget to align the No Peep. I believe I cleanly missed animals on two occasions while shooting at a downward angle for this reason. With a peep, you have to bend at the waist to see the downward target and aligning the peep with the ring of the sight is a no-brainer, because it's in front of your face.

It turns out the Peep Eliminator was shipped out from Chicago at 1:50 pm, so it should be here today.

First impressions of the Peep Eliminator

    Installation: 20 minutes

    Sight in 40 minutes

Once sighted in the two groups I was able to shoot were pretty good. No doubt things will tighten up with more practice. Will try and film a shot group tomorrow.

Plus: allows the shooter to shoot with head in a more upright position and it works as advertized.

Minus: the fiber optics look weak will test in low light and report back.

Overall: the more natural shooting posture promotes quicker target acquisition. I like it! IMG_20120922_113944.jpg

More backyard testing of the peep eliminator. The second and third days of testing were terrible with groups (very tight groups mind you) straying way off target. After lots of adjustments over the course of a few hours I packed in and resolved to start fresh the next day. At this point my peep had already been removed and a hunt is scheduled for this coming weekend. Let’s just say I was starting to sweat the load.

I kept going back to the part of the instruction that claimed you could shoot from and position and not worry about an anchor point. Since most of the groups were straying to the right of center, it dawned on me that the only variable had to be the position of my head a full draw. Unlike a peep…which splits the string up the middle and forces the shooter align with the center shot…the peep eliminator must be deliberately set to view on either the inside or outside of the string.
Long story short, once I started shooting with the string on the outer edge of my nose, things started to tighten up. Tonight will be the last practice before the hunt and my goal is to work toward reinforcing muscle memory on proper form. Low light shooting is a definite plus with the device and I was able to continue shooting (without using the sight light) until I was no longer comfortable seeing the shooter buck target at 25 yards.

On the plus side: good low light shooting capability and very accurate if properly used. There’s also, no need to worry about your peep rolling of a tube breaking.

On the minus side: It is quite possible to misalign a shot by moving your head laterally during the draw-aim process. Finally, since the peep eliminator is much closer to the sight than a peep sight; an attempt to take a 40 yard shot using my second pin hit way high. Since the three pins on my sight are already scrunched together on the same slot, the 40 and 50 yard pins are useless. At this point my range is limited to 35 yards; which is good enough for this weekend.
