My 2001 Silverado has been a good truck for the most part besides the rust issues, but my wives 2010 Traverse has been a nightmare. As of July we have owned it for a year and have already replaced the fuel pump once and I think it went out again today. It's being towed to the shop here in a little bit. Luckily it's covered under warranty but that runs out in July. It only has 55k on it and should not have gone through 2 fuel pumps in less then 6k miles. Now I need to try and sell it before warranty expires. Not very thrilled right now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
"It's always been a great vehicle" No problems in selling I currently am in the same situation. Cannot wait to get rid of my Jeep - but, it'll be paid off here soon, so I may suck it up. But suspension problems twice (covered under warranty, thankfully), three sets of tires, a broken linkage in my shifter, the road sound...I'm over it. Good luck car shopping and selling.
Thanks. I understand 1 fuel pump but 2 in 6 months? That would cost me a fortune if it happened outside of warranty. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Cheap fuel pumps are NOTORIOUS for failure. I replaced like 4 in my Jimmy in less than 2 yrs. Finally I shelled out for the expensive one with the lifetime warranty.... no more issues. Just saying, can't really blame Chevy for something they didn't even make....
Quit running your fuel level to low. Have a 2008 traverse and I sell chevys as well. Biggest problem with fuel pumps....always running near empty!!!
The problem is the float went bad and was reading the level wrong. It's my wife's car and I always tell her to keep it filled up. I drove it maybe once or twice a month. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
If Chevy allows dealerships to install cheap fuel pumps under warranty I'd say it's Chevys fault. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'd venture to guess a shady dealership could install whatever pump they choose. I doubt Chevy is keeping a watchful eye but what do I know....
I would hope not with this dealership. We've never had any issues with them and haven't heard any complaints from anyone. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I guess I never thought about the first one that went out not being the original fuel pump. It was reading a half tank the first time it happened and they said the tank was almost empty. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Ya it sucks lol. I need to start buying old vehicles because I can normally fix it myself. These new ones blow my mind haha. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
My 2001 2500hd needed a fuel pump at 150,000 miles. First my gas gauge only sort of worked. Then several months later the truck didn't want to start on the first crank so I had it replaced. Thankfully it never got really bad. The starter, brake lines, two calipers, rear spring shackles, tailgate cables, tailgate latches and fuel pump all had to be replaced at some point on my Chevy... But I had it for 206,000 miles and it was still running strong. It was rusting away in a hurry tho'. My 'new' 97 Silverado blew out the intake manifold gasket in a rather spectacular way only a couple weeks after I bought it. lol
My Silverado has been great! Replaced the fuel pump at 109k and alternator at 139k. Also have had to replace the power steering hose and u joints. No complaints with this truck other then it can be hard to start at times but not bad. Starts every time and runs great. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Oh yeah, I had to replace the alternator at 180,000 miles. I might have screwed it up by driving across a really deep flooded section of road. It started screeching pretty good after that. Maybe coincidence.
That may have done it. I told the dealership I want the fuel pump replaced and everything fuel related tested. I got another month on bumper to bumper and I'm gonna make sure it's all fixed and fixed correctly! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
***Update*** They called me today and are replacing the whole fuel system. They said something was broken that holds the float up properly and caused the whole thing to malfunction. They admitted they should have caught it last time as well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
That's good to read. Hopefully it stays fixed this time. My 2000 Silverado has 184k miles on it. It is having the famous "fuel gauge only works when it wants to" symptoms but has been for the last year. One of these days I'll buy a pump and slide the bed back and change it out. Maybe. I think I am buying a new truck this fall so I may not bother.
