I got my first turkey ever ! Hunting out of my ground blind three toms came by at about 8:20. Had only seen two fawns all morning so I thought I'd try for my first turkey. 20 # 9oz. Not exactly sure how to measure the beard and spurs so I included pics.

Awesome! I was thinking of trying my hand at taking a turkey with my bow. Would you shoot a turkey in the front of the chest with an arrow? I heard their wings are too tough to shoot through.

lil...This was my first turkey ever so I'm not sure of shooting it through the front chest. I'm sure it would work though. Maybe some of the more experienced turkey guys can comment. I shot him broadside. Through left wing and body. The right wing stopped the arrow.

Rob ole buddy :) Congrats on your first bow bird ;) looks like a good one!! Looks like you might be able to hold the beard flat to get a little more stretch. You will feel where the beard starts inside of the quick where you cut it off, you will feel the butt end and thats where you start your measurement. The spurs from your pics with the tape on them look like 13/16" and 7/8" As for where to shoot them, a front chest shot is good if you put it about where the beard starts if its facing straight at you. Thats where I shot my Fall bird. Broadside is a great shot, I like to shoot for near the wing joint. You said the arrow stopped in the bird and thats IMO a great thing. It helps keep them broke down until they expire. You can also shoot them facing away, I like to center the shot smack in the middle of the back. awesome bro, congrats bud, and I hope to see you again one day in KY ;)
