drew a unit 13 new mexico elk tag. I have never hunted this unit, looking for help and is it a good unit?
HMO, I've heard from a couple of guys that this is a good area, especially the southern part where the national forest land is located. You may already have this link to the COER map for unit 13 - NMDGF Topo maps are available online from the forest service. And, of course, there's no substitute for a few scouting trips. If you can't do that, contacting NMGF for information and "friendly" advice on this unit may yield some good info (I've done this several times with mixed results.) Good luck and I hope this helps.
I have heard guys say they hunt the fence line areas next to the reservation, if it's the unit I'm thinking of.
