I just picked up a pair of new monarchs (8x42) for $183. I don't know much about binos but had more than one person tell me it was a great deal. Thoughts?
I figured worse case I can always sell 'em. I ran into some situations last year where I needed some good glass and these came highly recommended.
Good deal if you ask me. I like the binos but HATE Nikon customer service, if you want to call it that!
Sorry, I'm all about it as well, thats the reason I'll never own another Nikon product again! Not just once but twice in the past 5 years did they NOT do me a solid. Luckily the scope was under 30 days and exchanged it at Gander for a Leupold, wouldn't hold zero right out of the box! They wanted me to send it to Cali for repairs, NOT!
love love love my 10X42's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! other than my bow and hand muff the BEST purchase ever! ps. thanks buckeye for offering to sell your other set to me! just got a deal i couldnt pass up=-)
Gmmat, I just found this in a review. May explain your $13: Reviewers say the full-sized Nikon Monarch ATB 8x42 binoculars are the best binoculars in this price range - the "sweet spot" where you get the most for your money. Recommended for birding, hunting and butterfly watching, the Monarch ATB 8x42 binoculars can focus as close as 8.2 feet and provide a 300-foot field of view. With 19.6mm of eye relief, they're also comfortable for eyeglass wearers. They're roof-prism binoculars (the best type) and are both fogproof and waterproof. They have a tripod socket for use in low light, and carry a 25-year warranty for manufacturers' defects plus a "no-fault" warranty, which means that Nikon will repair accidental damage for a flat fee of $10. If closer focus is the priority, consider the Pentax Papilio 6.5x21 (*est. $130), which can focus as close as 18 inches.
