The dogs went nuts a while ago so I looked out the window and the UPS truck was there. My daughter and son-in-law (the one I hunt with) ordered me a birthday gift. My birthday was the 25th of last month so it’s a little late, but I’m not going to complain. Now I just have to figure out what power banks to order as I have never had a power bank before. Amazon has a 25800mAh dual USB power bank for $23.35. I can't help wondering how long that would run this vest. Since this thing just hit the shelves recently there probably isn't much in the way of user experience to tap into.
I have a heated vest and that thing is awesome! They have definitely come a long way with heated clothing in the last few years. Sent from my SM-N950U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Well, I guess I'll hold off on ordering a power bank. Since they're both at work right now I texted my daughter and son-in-law Josh to say thank you. My daughter said it was all my son-in-law's idea and that a power bank should show up in the mail today. It seems Josh doesn't miss a thing.
I need someone to invent hunting clothing with a built in a/c system. I am never too cold but I get hot really easily. Looks like a sweet gift though.
I just got that vest for this year as well, hasn't been cold enough to use yet. As for powerbanks, I love Anker powerbanks. I have a 10000 mAh and a 25000, not sure how long they'll last in the vest but I will let you know once I test it out.
Could you tell me how much larger the 25000mAh is than the 10000mAh? The ones I see on Amazon are about 3" x 6", roughly the same size as my iPhone but thicker I'm sure. I know I'll need more than one 10000mAh pack and if I'm going to get one I want more power. Also, what is the amp output on yours? I couldn't find a high capacity Anker model with less than a 4 amp output and the ScentLok vest specifies a 2 amp input requirement.
I don’t think they really get bigger based on capacity. Just like sd cards I believe Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The 20,000 and 25,000 units are definitely bigger than the 10,000's. I'm an Anker fan as well and will likely stick with the 10,000 mAh unit on my Reactor vest. I've used the 20,000 unit a few times and it's a bit bulky for my taste. Doesn't quite fit in the pocket and allow me to velcro it shut so it's sticking out a bit. The 10,000 fits perfect and is much lighter weight. So far I love this vest. It's hasn't been cold enough to use it for long periods of time, but I've used it for an hour here and there and it works great. In the past I've run the Pnuma vest and with a 7.4v battery which is only like 5000 mAh. That will last a solid 3-4 hours, so I would imagine the 10,000 mAh unit is more the adequate for a few hunts before it needs a charge.
Thanks for the reply. I wish it had been a bit sooner since I ordered a 25000mAh pack yesterday. Oh well, I'm sure it'll come in handy. That thing should power the vest for a few hunts and recharge my phone a couple of times before needing a recharge. Since you have practical experience I have a couple of questions. I notice that the pockets don't have heating elements so hand warmers will be needed. Do the power packs generate heat when they are being used and will having a hand warmer in the pocket next to the power pack cause any problems?
No - the power pack doesn't heat up when in use. So you'll still need hand warmers. Having used heated vests for a few years now, I find I have the best luck with them as close to my skin as possible. I rarely use it as an outer layer. Having it under my outer layer allows the heat to get to my body easier, and also retains the heat better. I then use a hand muff with handwarmers in it over everything else. I typically wait until I get chilly before turning on the vest so I can conserve battery. On morning hunts that's usually an hour or so after I get settled in and my body cools down from the walk in. On evening hunts it's usually the last hour or two before dark depending on time of year. I turn it on for awhile until I'm warm, then turn it off. Doing this I can usually get 3-4 hunts out of a 5,000 mAh battery on the Pnuma vest.
Also worth noting ordering a size smaller may be beneficial? I know I’m usually an XL and I ordered the Milwaukee in XL. Wish I would have ordered a L for your reason of next to skin. Is that the case with the vests you guys have or are they sized according to be a close fit?
I have to say yes it is the case. I would have preferred a large. I wear an extra large shirt so it's a little baggy and this is a little baggy, but it was a gift so I didn't have much choice.
just saw this now so a little late with my response, but the 2500 is a bit beefier, still not too big that you couldn't use it in a pocket. My 10000 is about the size of an iphone and weighs 6.4 oz compared to my 2500 which is about double in length and weighs about 12.5 oz. Output on the 10000 is 2.4Amp
I bought a couple of cool tech long sleeve shirts from Mossy oak...wow they work great!! Even hubby had me buy him one.
I have this exact vest and it is Awesome! You will love it. As warm as it gets, you won't need to use it for an extended period of time on the highest setting. Trust me! The lower settings are more than enough to me. I use this Power bank. Very streamline, not bulky and fits in my vest pocket really well. I love visual indicator of the charge level/ charge remaining. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07T12NDMG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
