The point is the option of going for 2, whether that is out of a standard formation, or a kicking formation. By moving the kicking location back, you completely eliminate the option to go for 2 without the defense knowing exactly what you are doing.
How many fake extra points do you see? None! Either they go for two late in the game or they kick the extra point.
They have the option to use it if they want to. If you get rid of the extra point, lets just dump the entire kicking game then. Kickers hit about 90% of their field goals too. We could just get rid of punters too and make teams go for it on 4th down every time. That would really speed up the game. I just don't see how the EP slows the game down. Again, the NFL is who chooses when and where to put their commercials.
When teams go for two they almost always line up in an offensive formation rather than fake a kick. So your arguement is weak.
Your right, but they have the option to go for it if they choose now. They choose not to because coaches are too conservative and set in their ways. It happens in college quite a bit more.
The extra point is a worthless play. I hated it when I played. Move it back to the 25 yard line or give a team an option to go for two points starting at the 5 yard line.
It's also a numbers game. If you remove the extra point the percentages go way up for more overtime games. The NFL would become more "exciting" in any given year because of more overtime games and maybe make more because of that desired airtime. I don't think they are trying to become less boring, I think they are trying hard to become more exciting.
One change I would like to see - let the DB's actually have a chance at the ball with out a flag. Easier for a team thats down to go for a long pass interference call than actually trying to complete the pass.
Just get rid of it. Touchdown is 7 points plain and simple. If you want to got for two and make it, it is 8. If you don't you are at 6. Choose not to go for two .. screw the pointless kick and it's worth 7 like it is 99.9 percent of the time anyway. Quite simple. I think moving it back to the 25 is a terrible idea. Going to actually make it a play relying on the kicker? Weather conditions? etc... for an extra point that has been deemed automatic for decades? The work is in the scoring drive and touchdown. Don't put too much that could make the difference of a game on a kick from 42 yards. Stupid. A touchdown is 7 points... enough said.
I wish they would look at offensive penalties inside there own 2 yard line. Any penalty they make backs them up half the distance. How is that a penalty? If the defense jumps they move forward ten yards. I have seen offenses hard count the crap out of it just waiting for a jump. How about any offensive penalty inside the 1 moves the first down marker forward 10 yards? Now a first down at the 11 becomes a first down at the 21!!! Sent from my iPhone 5S using Tapatalk
I believe you mean 5 yards. But I get what you are saying. Just don't just offsides. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using Tapatalk
could they go back to being able to tackle quarterbacks and how about calling some of those "helmet to helmet" calls against receivers and running backs that drop their heads into the tackler
It's called football. The kickers position should be worth more then it is. This makes going for 2 In bad weather games extremely appealing IMO. It doesn't matter...none of the major rules ever get changed unless It's for safety. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
Yes I understand what football is. I also understand the kickers main role is kicking field goals. All for it. The kickoff play has become obsolete. When you sign a kicker are you going to be looking at how many extra points he can make.... how he does on kickoffs... ?? Or his field goal percentages... length he can kick... clutch situations etc... The extra point is pointless, don't try to make something out of nothing.
