With all the frustration I had this year in terms of shooter buck opps, I just had a good sighting that makes next year pretty promising. I just had four deer 30 yds off my back porch (they've been crossing in here since rifle season). Three of them were bucks I passed this season, so it's good to see they're still kicking. There was a broken 6, 4, and a 3 point. They look very healthy, and were traveling together (the 4th deer was a button buck that came in separate). I just scraped the top half of our plot so they have easier access to the greens through the snow, so hopefully we can get them through this winter, keep them healthy, and then hit them with some supplements in the spring, and I may have a decent buck herd to go along with my already healthy doe herd. Things are starting to look up.

Well, this is my first year back into bowhunting and I am going to come up with a goose egg. WIll be the first year since I was 17(I'm 50 now) that I hunted and did not kill a deer.

I have to say that I actually had a great time. I could have killed several deer if I had been hunting with my rifle, but I never took it out of the safe.

Now I'm going to focus on hogs and tree rats:d

I just really like hunting with a bow.:nana:

Thanks, guys. I know looking at my logs, and based off this past season, that I need to take a few more doe off the property (there have only been 5 doe taken off our property in over 20 yrs). The ratios are becoming a bit out of wack, and it was REALLY noticeable this season. We're going to hit harder with the supplements this spring, and hopefully add one or two more plots in addition to our bigger one. We're doing everything we can to provide a year round habitat to keep them on our property (which is fairly small in the scheme of things at only 90 acres), and I feel that we're making good progress.

yes, they definitely will need help this winter. looks like it'll be a rough one for the deer. Luckly by us, the temps skyrocketed to mid 40's & it rained for 2 days. Knocked all of the snow out. Bad for hunting, good for deer.
