So this past December I was trying to sell my ICE-55 on craigslist and after a many deals falling through I decided to take the first what I thought was decent offer. I ended up trading it for a 2012 Bear Anarchy bow in pretty much brand new condition. The guy who traded me was a Bear pro and stated he had only put 12 or so arrows through it to sight it in. He decided to continue hunting with his old rig. When I got it he had changed out strings to Winners Choice I beleive he said. Anyways I was going back and forth on hunting as I have never hunted before and I am now in my mid 30's. I picked up all the necessary gear however I went cheaper on a few of the accessories as I wasn't sure I would get into shooting the bow. I picked up the following items. Had a new kisser and had the peep sight adjusted. Tru Glo Brite-Site Xtreme Three-Pin Sight Quality Archery Designs Ultra-Rest Hunter Fall-Away Rest Free Flight C-10 Release G5 Head-Loc Six Arrow Quiver Muzzy MX-3 Broadheads Gold Tip Hunter Expedition Dampners Primos Bow Sling Fuse Flexblade Stablizer 6" Long story short hunting season came upon me way to fast. I have a few pieces of camo and looked a few pairs of boots. I have been looking at climbers but most are really expensive. I want something light weight but would rather not spend a ton of money my first year out. Are there any decent climbers for 100 to 150. I looked a few at ****s, Dunhams, Fleet Farm, and Gander but I do not really know what I am looking for in terms of durability and safe climbers. Any advice on cheaper stands? I have looked at few online at Sportsman warehouse but not being able to physically touch something makes it hard to buy. So if you have any advice let me have it.
The API Climber on sportsman's warehouse for $135 (non-members) is a good climber. 22lbs I think. About as good as you are going to get for that kind of money. I bought mine used off Craigslist for $75-80...I can't really remember. It's a Gorilla brand. Heavy, but solid and I love it.
Thanks Thanks, I just ordered the climber after talking to the lady about it. I paid 140 after joining the club and finding an 11 dollar off coupon through the web. I am on budget so trying to get the best bang for my buck. The next question I have is how important is scent locking technology on my gear. If I spray my self down with one of the many types of scent control substances do I really need scent lok clothing? I noticed that Sportsmans Guide has scent lock coveralls in mossy oak break up infinity decently priced. Scent - Lok Coveralls, Mossy Oak Break - Up Infinity - 1015380, Camo Coveralls & Bib at Sportsman's Guide I have never worn coveralls and these are not insulated can you layer effectively like you can under bibs and a jacket? And lastly for now will this pattern work still later in the fall or should I pick up something cheaper so that I can get try and swing some vertigo pattern for December hunting? My other option is Russell Outdoors® Flintlock™ Coveralls, Mossy Oak Break-Up®. Russell Outdoors Flintlock Hooded Jacket - 1104070, Camo Coveralls & Bib at Sportsman's Guide The reason I am looking at these is they are relatively painless in price. I should have ordered stuff through out the year. Did not think it would quite this expensive. Thanks in advance for your help. Millions of deer have been killed with sticks, string and flint head. The scentlok stuff may give you a slight edge, but from a cost benefit perspective, you're better off with the Russell gear.
Wow I ordered my stand around 9 o'clock on Wednesday and it has already arrived. Sportsman's Guide is super quick. Thanks for the suggestion. I can't wait to get home to check it out.
Awesome! I'm sure you will like the stand. BTW. I kill deer every year and I wear Walmart Camo. Just wash everything in baking soda and either hang it outside to dry or put it in dryer without a dryer sheet. They make hunting dryer sheets. Dead down wind, Hunters Specialties.
Thanks, When I got home I had the women wash my clothes in baking soda before I read this. I am hoping to get out for a few hours tomorrow near Spread Eagle, WI.
