So...my wife and I are wondering. She is hearing different opinions on whether you want the baby sleeping in your bedroom or in the baby's bedroom for the first couple of months. I'm new to all of this, so curious what you guys that have experience are thinking.

    Your thoughts?

Whatever you decide, do not let the baby in your bed or you will never get him/her out of it.

Baby is sleeping in bassinet next to my wife. She breastfeeds so it provides easy access and we can change him here too. When he gets old enough to sleep through the night without needing food, he is going to his own room.

My daughter has always had her own room where she sleeps.

Spot on for the early month or two... after that... slide them into their own room with a couple musical mobiles or something to let you know when they wake. We had a protective hot dog when my son was born. He always made us aware when the boy was awake. It was unbelievable. But anyway... yup... Bassinet for the first month or two... no question about it. You're going to have to take turns. We were lucky. After the first week my kid would sleep from 11 to 7. I know lots of friends with horror stories of being up several times a night.... we never had that.

I just heard this the other day as well. I'm not sure I'd want a newborn in bed with me anyway. I toss and turn and tangle the covers up when I sleep. Wouldn't be safe for a baby.

Both our girls had their own rooms from day 1, with a Baby monitor of course. I can't blame people for wanting them in their own room for the first few weeks though.

Both girls slept in a crib in our room until they were almost sleeping through the night. I was nursing all the way so sometimes I would have to wake her up. ;) They share a bedroom. If they need us, they just come in and wake daddy up. (He wakes up instantly and they know he always gets up with me anyway.)

I agree with David. I did this with both of my daughters. Kept them in a bassinet for the first month or two, then moved them just across the hall, with open doors and a baby monitor for good measure.
    Congrats and good luck!

AMEN! Buddy of mine had his 15yo kids climbing in bed in the middle of the night  I gave this advice to my niece because I knew how protective she was...her son just turned 2 and has never been in his own bed EVER. Obviously she didn't listen, and I know it ain't gonna end well at some point. Funny thing is, she has about a $500 gorgeous solid wood crib that her inlaws bought the baby... money well spent. LOL

We had our 2 sleep in our room in a little portable crib for the first week or two. Then on to their own crib in their own rooms.

We did a bassinet in our room for the first 4-6 weeks or so. After that he went in his room in his crib.

    depends on the child.

Our foster son was very noisy, making it very hard for us to sleep so we moved his bassinet into his bedroom very early.

Our son (6 weeks old!) is a very quiet sleeper, so he spent his first 4 weeks in a bassinet in our bedroom.

Our oldest was in a bassinet in our room for a short period of time. But she was born 5 weeks early and had to be fed every few hours for the first bit. After that she was in her room. The next 2 were straight to their own room.
