Hello all! I 've been reading the forums all day now, and there is alot of great info and great people hre, and i look forward to talking and listening to you. I've been thinking about getting into the sport for a few years now, and today finally went out and bought a bow. Bowtech, though it doesn't have a model name on it, or even a plate with the draw and weight. I took it to a shop and they shortened the draw from 29 to about 27.5 for me, and backed it down some from 57#. I'm not very tall (5'7"), and while I have little trouble pulling the string back with my fingers, when I use the wrist release, it gives me alot of trouble. It feels right when I finally get it back, but the last few inches are a struggle -- do you think it is still too long, or do I just need to quit whining and build some muscle? I don't expect to go hunting this season (but if he walks up in my backyard i might change my mind), but next season I'll be living near the NC mountains on a wooded 35ac, and perhaps have access to far more of my neighbor's land. I have never hunted before, and the tips and discussions on the forum have given me alot of ideas about how to go about actually hunting whitetail. But if anyone has any tips for the rank beginner, either about shooting or hunting, please pass them along. In the meantime, I'll keep slaying hay bales and reading the forums. Thanks!
Welcome!! I think you'll enjoy your time here. We have a lot of fun. As far as your bow is concerned, without seeing what's going on it's difficult to say. But it could be one, both or a combination of the 2 things. If the draw length is too long, the cam will break over to late in the draw cycle. In other words, you'll almost be at your full draw before the cam breaks over.......not fun. Or, the poundage could simply be to high. You're using muscles that you've never used before, but it won't take long to build them up. Get to a pro shop and have them check it all out......It's not worth getting hurt.
Welcome aboard darkbyrd. A wise decision to wait till next year to chase the deer with your new bow. The best advice I can give you is to practice shooting and maybe find someone in your neighborhood that can help you and give you pointers. If you need answers to specific questions, ask away. There are a lot of knowledgable archers and hunters here.
Welcome to the forum, i would suggest that you shorten your draw more, my lengh is 27.5 and im just about six foot.
Welcome! From your description, it sounds like your draw length is probably correct but that your release might be a little long. A couple of solutions are to shorten your releaseone the (if it's adjustable) or get one that has a shorter distance from the trigger to where it clips on to the release! Good luck and ask away, you probably don't have any questions that haven't been answered. Just out of curiosity, how did you come to want to get into hunting?
Welcome! Great site here. Like said already, have pro's look it over and go from there. You'll be hooked in no time flat.
I enjoy the outdoors, enjoy fishing, love the woods. But particularly, my long term goal is self-sufficiency. Hunting is one of the important skills to achieve that. I believe that my release is too long, I will be looking into a shorter one, perhaps one offered by winnarchery, they look like they would serve me better.
From one "Newbie" to another, This site IS great and the folks on it are the best. Glad to have you aboard. Now, let's go out and shwack one, or two.
welcome to the forum bud! Just keep practicing at it, and you will soon get that bow back no problem, i dont think it be a length issue if they already fitted it to you, but its hard to say without seeing it in person. welcome aboard!
