Good morning, I have caught the archery fever. My husband asked me a couple months ago if I would like to shoot trap or shoot bows and I said shoot a bow would be fun. So I started shooting an old re-curve. I was not very good at it. So we went to the pro shop to see if hubby's old bow would turn down enough so I could pull it back. No such luck until I set eyes on a used Hoyt Kobalt! I'm in love. After reading some articles on the web, one in particular about a 15 year old girl shooting her first turkey, I annouced to my hubby that I wanted to be ready to shoot a turkey during spring gobbler. I do not feel confident enough to hunt this fall. He thought I was sick when I said I wanted to hunt. He had just been happy that I was having fun target shooting. I am not doing to bad at target shooting, but I want to get better. I seem to be pulling left often so I am working on that. Any tips anyone can offer to a new archer, please pass them along.
Kinda sounds like u are pulling the trigger and pushing the bow at the same time causing u to shoot to the left or griping the bow to tight just relaxe and shoot it will all fall together. Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk
This is my first year hunting. I shot a bow for my first time in the spring and immediately went out and bought my own. I love it. I have been practicing weekly ever since. I am by no means an expert, but I was having the same problem when I started. I was told the same thing...I was gripping my bow very tightly. Once I lightened up on my grip, my groupings were MUCH better. I got the Bowtech Heartbreaker. I am hoping to get my first deer this year Good Luck to you!
Thank you for the welcoming messages. I tried to relax today and not grip the bow so tight. I would shoot the arrows all over, then the next round I would have great groupings. Getting angry/bummed that I will really only have a chance to shoot on the weekends soon because it getting dark so much earlier. I did just send in a registration for an archers club that has an indoor range, so hopefully we can make a weekly visit during the week. What do you all do during the winter months to keep practicing?
I shoot in my basement or at work at the shop in the winter. If you have room just set a target bag about 10 feet away and just shoot 2 and go get them. That way all u are working on is muscle memery and grip and release along with form. It all takes time. Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk
