I'm pretty new to hunting, and while my friend was using my bow, he lost one of my arrows. I was wondering if it is worth getting just 1, don't even know if they sell them in a single package at all. But anyways, if/when I am in a market for some arrows, which brand/type would be good for me? I use a Mathews Mission Riot which is right now at 50 lbs, but I may move to 60 lb. Right now my other arrows are Gold Tip Expedition Hunter 5575/400 (carbon), but they're a bit too expensive at around $100 for dozen. I'm guessing I should probably stick with .400 spine, but does it matter what the O.D and I.D are (what do they stand for as well)? Or would any .400 spine arrow work? Can you recommend some good affordable brands that are good for hunting and practicing (or should I keep a separate set of each? Thanks!

Are you new to archery in general or just hunting? If your new to the sport of archery, I suggest a mid priced set of carbon arrows. Aluminums are cheaper but bend easy. I could wright a 3 page reply to you on selecting arrows but to keep things simple, go to a arrow website and find there size chart to figure out what spine you need. Several things will factor your selection such as total weight of the finished arrow, length, bow poundage etc. Go to your local bow shop and they can help you out. I don't think you can buy a single arrow these days unless you take the wal-mart route. I suggest buying a half dozen to start out. Hope this helps get you in the right direction.

By the way OD is outside diameter of arrow and ID is inside diameter. Mainly use these numbers for building your own arrows(nocks and inserts).

If you check out the gold tip spine chart they say you can go up one square. So for example if you shoot a 27" arrow look in the 28" section. As for buying one arrow, if the shop has them you should be able to buy one and have them cut and glue inserts and fetchings. I'm not sure if anywhere online sell just one arrow. You can go a whole lot cheaper and better than gold tips expedition hunter. I love gold tip and think they are the best. If you're trying to save money try buying a half dozen arrows instead of a dozen.

Take a look at Beman arrows. They have their ICS Bowhunter for right around 60-70 a dozen I believe. Really good arrow for the price. I currently shoot the ICS Hunter Pros and couldnt be happier. I shot piledrivers for years but had a TON of quality control issues with them.

I hunt with Golt tip pro hunters, I practice with Gold tip Devastators. ($29.99 per 1/2 dozen) they are within 10 grains of the pro hunters.

Some places will let you buy just one. The proshop I go you you can buy any number of arrows or order through them. I like the easton arrows and I shoot the fmj but I like a heavier arrow setup. What is your draw length though?
