Hello and thank u in advance, This is the first year i have bow hunted and im having trouble. The property that i picked up to hunt is great and full of deer. I have several trail cam pics of about three "shooters" but have been unable to get them in range. Part of the problem i am having is the land wich is about 40 acres of woods and 70 of farm ground .. Bottom line is what is happening is with no access from the south side the only real good wind i have is a south wind. But what is happening is the deer are passing me going south to north but once north of me are put on high alert cause of my scent.. Its a good problem to have but there is so many doe and young deer i have to somehow avoid all of them and try to wait for the bigger ones to get to me. I do where scent lock spray down and take steps for scent control. The deer are just always coming from so many directions its been almost impossible for me to not be put on alert before the shooters get there. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.
I have the same problem. The land I hunt, the deer usually are unpredictable of what way they will come from. I try to hunt the stands that have the best wind for them but can only do my best to keep scent down. Just keep doing what you are doing. Keep your scent control to the best you can an keep hunting. Just pick the stand to hunt that is the best wind or where the wind blows in the direction of where the least deer come from. Also try moving the stand to where the big deer normally come from and get yourself closer to them. It doesn't matter since they are on high alert most of the time. That is my opinion. Good Luck. Could you post some pics from your trail camera.
I have the same exact problem, reading your post was as if I was talking to myself. But I can get to the south end when the crops are out. It just doesn't seem to matter where I go into the timber at I'm always bumping deer, north, south, east or west or in the middle.. So I just play the wind the best I can, get up high in the tree and I usually have deer come in from one bedding area or another. Where I hunt the deer come from all directions and just because the wind isn't necessarily good for 1 direction it is for another.
That first deer is a good looking deer. For sure he is a shooter. What state do you hunt in. Minnesota
