hey all! This is my first season with bow and have only been hunting for 3 years. Tonight was the first time i have ever seen a deer while hunting and it was pretty sweet! It was a big(to me) 8 pointer with bloody antlers. My heart was pounding and because I was so close, 10 yards, he spotted me and took off! I didn't even have time to raise my bow because he came out of nowhere. It was really cool though. I ground hunt as well, and I have no idea how to make a ground blind. Does anyone have any tips on where I should try to hunt from or behind? Or how to make one? Tree stands scare me only because I could fall out and die and not because of the height. But I'm really thinking about getting a ladder stand? I don't know where to begin. Which ones are the safest? Which ones are easy to get up and down in? I hunt on private property that has a mixture of pine trees, a small maybe 30x20 in yardage apple orchard, a small swamp, hardwoods like birch and lots of maple trees. Tonight I saw 4 new scrapes around and in the apple orchard. Today I bought some Dominate Buck urine and decided to put it 10 yards away from where I sat. Now I don't know if it had anything to do with me seeing that buck but he was there 30 minutes later. I splashed a scrape with the urine. Is that what I'm supposed to do?? LOL. I just did it to see what would happen. As I said I'm a newbie, I don't know what I'm doin. What do I do with the urine? How much should I use? Did I do something really stupid? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Use the surrounding brush and try to backdrop up against a barrier of some sort like a fallen tree or a big base tree. Try and make it look as natural as possible with a good shooting window. Use good camo that matches as best as can be and clear the ground of any leaves and brush .
Welcome to the forum! "Hitting" an existing scrape, or making your own mack scrape are great uses of your buck urine.
If you Are wanting to hunt on the ground than you will need to be covered in your camo and make sure you spray down good so they don't smell you. You should use what's already around you for aground blind. Yesterday I shoot my first buck of the season and all I did was have a small tree and a limb infront of me when he walked up. If you are worried about falling out of the tree your best bet is to go with a good lader stand they are hard to knock down you can nail some of them to the tree. I think that the bbest way to hunt big mature bucks are with a good climbing stand or a good ground blind. Take it in that morning and when you leave take them out it's like you was never there. Putting dominante buck urine on a scrape that was already there is a great way to bri g a big buck in. It's kinda like someone telling you that another guy is in your hunting area and you are going to get him out. Just pratice alot and scout as hare as you are going to hunt and you should get a deer. Shoot stright I hope this helps Hoytultrasport Keyser W,V 26726
