    Hey there,

I'm new to bow hunting and a bit new to hunting in general. I'm (as the name suggests) from Oregon originally, moved to Florida, and then came up here to Kentucky.

I have hunted a couple of times (modern rifle), and went out this season (2011) for the first time in several years. I was unable to grab a deer this season and was a bit disappointed about the modern rifle season ending. My sisters boyfriend is an avid hunter (modern rifle, muzzle loader, and bow) and suggested to me that I get into bow hunting.

I fired his new compound bow (it was much to short) and I LOVED it! It looks like I should get about $1500 back in taxes this year, and I'm thinking about investing in a new compound bow. I don't know anything really about bow hunting which brings me here. All I know is, when I fired my sisters boyfriends bow, the kisser piece (?) was about 6'' away from my face.

I've got a lot of reading + learning to do, and I'm excited about it all. I'm hoping to be able to be ready before spring turkey season opens up. I'm about 6'3, with weirdly long arms (arm length is about that of a 6'10'' tall man) so I'm hoping I can find a decent bow (under $800, between $450-600 would be ideal) that will fit my size.

    Thanks for having me here,
    Patrick
