My company has shutdown this Friday. The very trusty weatherman is calling for rain today through Thursday so I am thinking Friday should be a great day to hunt. With it getting closer and closer to rut and with the good weather conditions I am contemplating my first ALL DAY hunt. Even though I have been hunting for many moons I have never attempted this crazy feat of manhood. Those of you that have successfully accomplished this manly act, please help me out on some of the things that help you get through the long day.

Note: Things to keep in mind….

1.) I am not cool enough to have an Iphone or smart phone.
2.) I am terrified of heights so unnecessary movement is out of the question.

I would actually love to just get my deer in the morning and call it a day… but if I am not blessed with that kind of luck please help me get through the day.

I agree with both of those! Some people use little electronic pocket games or magazines/books. It is easy if you are seeing deer, but if you're not, it is very difficult.

Well it's not as bad as it seems but you sure can be sore the next day in some cases. It is a little early, however, I have been having movement here in IN at noon now. I have sat out all day a few times. It can be difficult to stay awake but you'll be surprised how easy the time can go.
Preparation is key. Get plenty of rest the night before. Make sure you're not there 10 minutes and have to use the restroom. I never have in a stand and don't plan on it. Take little snacks and only sips of water.

Enjoy it. It gives you an opportunity to see all kinds of cool things. But make sure to stay attentive, you know deer come in when you're never expecting it.

I advise against this idea (can't see anything when sleeping), but if you do, MAKE SURE you have a harness on!

As far as all day sits go, I've done my share. I just did my first of the season yesterday. I was in my stand by 6:15AM and left at 6:30PM. It is a long day, but you can say with certainty what went on/or not in that area that day. What I do is break the day down into 3 four hour hunts. Morning, afternoon, and evening. It just seems like a mental game to me. There are times when I feel like leaving if nothing's going on, but I just remind myself that's when something could slip through. Make sure you have enough food and drink! You won't sit all day without something in your belly. Good luck.

I had made the decision to sit all day Saturday,(my 2nd hunt of the year). I had found a decent new spot with plenty of rubs and very thick new timber. I hung a camera there on Tuesday the same day I hung the stand, and I pulled the card at 5:30 AM saturday. but waited to check it after first light. I saw a nice buck at midnight and thought to myelf I probably won't see anything sitting here all day. but at 2 PM I had that buck infront of me at 35 yds and a hour later a monster buck the same distance. if I would have left for lunch and came back I would have bumped those two bucks. They aren't moving alot but they are moving during the day.

when i was bored I would get down and trim some shooting lanes quietly and fast. also, I made a couple more Mock scrapes. after I saw the bucks I didn't move until dark. sunflower seeds will kill most of the time.

Yeah, I don't wear a harness. As a result, I fall out sometimes. Its only a 12 ft stand though. Never fell out while sleeping though.

I have never hunted all day, as the majority of my hunting has been with gun and with an uncle. My uncles always want to leave the woods by 10am, either due to age or boredom. I hunted alone this weekend with a bow and stayed until 2pm one day and noon the second day. I had to work in the evening on both days so couldn't stay all day. Also had to fix a friend's furnace the second day, so needed to leave plenty of time for that task.

However, I figured I'd at least add this article to your thread, in case you haven't seen it yet.

Go to the articles tab of this website. then go to bow hunting knowledge. there is an article about sitting all day. I absolutely love all day sits, a few things that really help out a lot...
    1. obviously be comfortable. Bring enough clothing that your not freezing.
    2. bring enough food with you that you are always full. I bring 2 sandwiches and always a bag of pretzels just something to snack on whenever im bored.
    3. A magazine. i don't suggest reading all day. i like to read come noon to about 2. just to get me over the "hump". make sure to read a few paragraphs and then pay attention to whats going on around you for 3 or 4 minutes then read another few paragraphs. And i suggest a hunting magazine because it helps keep your head in the game. Seeing the big bucks in the magazines defenitly helps me keep my hopes up.
    4. MOST IMPORTANT SUNFLOWER SEEDS! they are a lifesaver. youd be suprised with how much they help pass time

All day sits are tough. I've done a few. I like to at least move once during mid day & look at some different trees.

I’ve even heard of people bring a radio with an ear piece to listen to sports during a sit. I have an old school walkman that has a radio on it that I am going to try out next week. I always seem to get caught off guard while texting or typing up stuff on BH.com.

I bring my iPod and play a game of solitaire of checkers every now and then. I also keep a season journal on it, recording my deer sightings and wind direction, etc.
