Quick question. I'm hoping one of you experts/enthusiasts can help me out. Can you use a zoom controller on the Canon Vixia HF R500?

Sorry but it doesn't look like it does. Rather inexpensive cameras like this one don't offer manual focus or lanc remote plug.

Not to hijack your thread but you got me thinking about this now. Trevor or anyone else what would you suggest for a remote for my XA10?

Can you plug it into your AVR port if you have one? I know there are conversion cables as well.

I have a VariZoom VZ-Stealth Miniature Control for Prosumer DV Camcorders with LANC Jack. Simple and works great, $118.00 on Amazon.

the lower end Canons do not offer a lanc or av/r jack but most all of the Sony cameras have one AV/R buy a Sony you can pick up a SonyHDR XR160 for around $300 and its an awesome little camera has a 160 gig hdd which will record like 50 hrs of full hd footage and also has an input for a shotgun mic .... check out ebay good luck
