Hello every one, I am new to bow hunting, rifle hunt all the time but never had the opportunity to bow hunt. I am posting to ask for help on choosing a compound bow with the add ons, since i am not hard core yet im hoping to limit the price range to $300-$400? If any one with experience could assist me in choosing a good brand with that price range id much appreciate it. I have been reading some as well, i would like a bow that can reach up to #70 lb, i am 18 years of age and am a bigger guy so shouldnt be much of an issue shooting at 60-70 lb weight? I have shorter stocky arms so not sure what kind of draw length would suite me good. Well any help is appreciated, thanks.
First off, welcome. I was in the same situation as you are in last year. I went with the Bear Lights Out bow package, which was around that price range. But Bear has a new line of bows out now, so I would check them out. The ready to hunt package is alright, but I would definitely upgrade the sights. They are just cheap plastic, and the housing cracked on me. As far as draw length, my wingspan is 6'5" and I shoot a 30" draw length. You can use that as a reference, but wherever you buy the bow should be able to set it up for you. Best of luck!
Yes, i looked at the bear bows and was wondering how they were, i kind of figured just like all items, when you buy the "package" you get the cheap stuff with it, so ill end up just buying a bow and then seperate accessories, any more advice is greatly appreciated! I was looking at some of the hoyte stuff as well and some used bows on craigs list.
Welcome to the site. If I were you, I would find a pro shop nearby, find ones that are in your price range, and shoot them. You will find some shoot better than others and some are more comfortable than others. If you've never shot a bow, 70 lbs might be too much. Some guys look like the hulk and still have trouble drawing back a large poundage because their muscles aren't trained yet. Once you've found a bow that you like, the pro shop can assist you with setting it up to fit you. They can also help you with your shooting form. Good luck!
I puchased a bow package off of www.huntersfriend.com and killed two does right out of the box. They set it up for you and comes with everything you need. Check them out and they are well worth your money. By the time you spend all the money on a bow and the fixins you will go over the prices they offer.
been eyeballing the bear charge setup, think i might purchase this, it says 50-70 #lb, does that mean its ajustable from 50-70?
alrighty then, i think i will try this bow out :D, looks like a good package for around $500, also back to AK, i believe my dads old bow is at a current 65lb and i can draw that back decently and steady, we just never got into bow hunting much.
If you dont like something in that package they will let you change that item and will either pay or take off the difference than what the package is for. I will do all my business with them. When I even order my arrows I go to them now. They have my business for life.
I bought a Bowtech Pro 38 off them and still using it. They are good people and are all about business and making you happy. You even have to order over the phone still I think. I like that because it is personal and if you have any questions they can help you right there while ordering.
