This past weekend we (me my wife our son and nephew) spent 3 days at smugglers notch in Vermont. I had always wanted to ski, just never did. Now I'm kicking myself that I've been missing out on so much fun! My wife used to ski years ago, but took a first timer lesson with me. In a few short hours I was going down the bunny hill like a champ, falling only once when my ski tips crossed! The boys took snow boarding lessons and we all spent the first day together on the bunny hill. I was like a kid on Christmas morning the next morning! I was so excited and couldn't wait to get back out on the mountain! I became instantly hooked and we found a great hobby we can all do together as a family. Anyone else ski/snowboard? Yea I used to ski a lot but can't afford to anymore. Day passes around here don't come cheaper then $65. My wife tried and didn't love it so we decided our money could be better spent else where. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I loooovvvveeeee skiing so much.....it's a great time.....you'll learn so much more when you get off the bunny hill....you need a little bit of steep to learn how to not snowplow to stop and also to really bite into turns and stuff Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk 2
Love snowboarding myself. Miss it! Between gaining some weight and never having both the money and the time at the same time, I havent gone in a few years. Was hoping to this year and mad I didnt. Glad to see you had a good time!
Nice place to ski I grew up skiing there and Killington also Sugarbush a few times Sent from my iPhone 5s using Tapatalk
I love snowboarding! I didn't go at all this year due to my knee. Still a bit nervous to go after my surgery but can't wait till next year already! Depending on what the weather does the next week or two I might still try to sneak in one day trip somewhere close by!
So true about getting off the bunny hill! I was able to spend the last half of our last day on a few green level trails. that is what got me hooked! The pie/wedge/snow plow did not work on the steeper grades! It was kinda scary knowing I had to do a normal stop to get a good bite. Once I did and got the feel of turning and going from side to side it was a big rush feeling that I was on the edge of being out of control yet in control at the same time! Really want to go again one more time. Cool to see a bunch of people on here are skiers/snowboarders too! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Funny you should mention skiing, I JUST talked to my wife about doing this a week or so ago. I think it was the Winter Olympics that made me want to try it.
Glad you and your family can enjoy the new hobby! I raced on ski team all through high school - love to go fast as possible.
Absolutely love it. I have been a lifelong skier since a little kid. Despite liveing in the south I still ski 15-20 days a year. Usually by flying out west. Both my boys learned to ski before they could swim. My wife took it up again when we first started dating. Its the one thing we all agree on wanting to do. Our best family memories so far at trips out west, white knuckle drives, epic runs etc. I will agree its very expensive but I budget for it all year. You also have to take advantage of specials. Like at snowshoe WV where we have season passes, we buy them early and it cost $800 for a family of 4 for season passes. Also believe it or not mountains out west have great deals. Last April for spring break we took our 7 and 9 year old to Aspen. The deal was kids ski free and eat free all week during spring break. I fly alot for work so FF TIX made it an affordable Aspen vacation. I also learned to go off peak. Avoid MLK, Presidents weekend christmas etc and room can be dirt cheap. Good luck its great to ward off the winter blues. I'm a winter guy so I actually get depressed in the spring. Weird I know. Oh yeah if you liked smuggs try Jay Peak. I took my kids their in January. The waterpark is awesome for families after a day of skiing. google it.
I used to ski all the time in PA and VT with Stratton being my favorite mountain. I haven't done it for the last couple of years but I plant to next year. I actually use to be quite good but who knows now.
Glad you like it, I've been doing it since I was 11. My wife recently took up snow boarding and my daughter skis, great family fun.
I live in Colorado and have only gone skiing 5 times and three of those were in New Mexico. Tried skiing and snow boarding liked snowboarding better. But i was more sore from the slopes the next morning than crawling on 5 broncs in two days.
