I thinking about purchasing a new camera and wanted to get some opinions on what is good and no good. The one I have is just outdated and likes taking blury pics. I have heard about some cameras that can send the picture to your cell phone? How does that work? Anyway just wanted to get some input on what to look for. Thanks!
I have used many different brands of cameras over the past years and nothing comes close to the Covert line of cameras especially the 2013 lineup. You can't beat the quality of the the pictures and video at a great price along with fantastic performance. I recently order a Covert Code Black camera that sends pics to you through a cellular signal. Once set up and running I'll post some pics.
I've tried many brands over the years and Covert is the one that I've grown comfortable with. Not only the best camera for the price but the absolute best customer service in the camera trade. I've never used a MMS camera so I can't help you in that area.
Any non covert pro staffers have any opinions on this (only because it's pretty biased)? I am also looking to get a few more. What price points are coverts?
12 years of camera use has taught me that Covert's can't be beat for the price/service and quality. ...oh you said non-pro staffers. My bad.
Real opinion? If you know what your doing, you can get ANY camera to take great pictures. Ive owned Stealth Cams, Cuddebacks, Moultrie's and Coverts. Cuddebacks have a narrow sensing cone, powerful (scary to game) flash, and bad water gaskets. Stealth cams suck hot dog with battery life, grainy photo quality and terrible trigger times. I had 7 of those cams "die" for no reason as well. Moultries have friendly customer service but make mass-produced cheap cameras. They change them EVERY year as well. I have one good Moultrie (i40 model...no longer made) and have owned lots of bad ones (Cabelas 3.1's, D55) and we have one decent one (M80...no longer made). Covert has top notch customer care (located here on these boards), phenomenal trigger times, photo quality and battery life. They are also affordable with top end features (Video with sound, black flash). If i had to recommend a camera to a novice, go with either the covert MP6 Black or the Covert Red40.
Im just saying, I would give you the same answer pre-prostaff. They are phenomenal cameras, price, quality, customer service, and battery life.
The DLC Covert Code Black will take a picture and send it to your phone or email (pending cell signal where the cam is located) You would need to purchase a pre-paid sim card to put in the camera. It is $9.99 a month for 1000 pics and $19.99 a month for unlimited pics. I won't comment on what brand to buy as I am also biased put before I worked here I would have name dropped where I am employed now.
I am a trail camera nut and have 2 Moultries and one Buckeye Cam and also have used my buddy's Moultrie and Wildgame Innovations camera. The Moultries all take decent pictures (one camera out of the 3 has been retired). The Buckeye Cam is like a tank and has taken thousands of pictures over the years and still is running strong, the pictures are decent. WI camera is decent if a deer spends time in front of it for a while, other than that I always worry if it's even going to take pictures when we leave it. I picked up 2 Covert 40 Reds this past winter and it's because of all the pictures I have been looking at this past year, the Covert line always stand out when it comes to the quality I am after. The 2013 models with the HD video are absolutely incredible and are on my MUST GET list. Also, they have one model, think it's called the Code Black Ops, that is a cellular model. I hope to get at least one of those this year as well for our property down in Ohio, would be great to pass the time between being down there to pull cards. The other thing I like about the Coverts is the fact that they actually put some thought into the case design for security without necessarily having to buy a steel box. Using a python cable lock you can slip it through the hole in the back and, if there is enough cable left after going around the tree, you can wrap it around the front of the camera as well to lock it to the tree and at the same time lock the door closed.
Trust me I'm not trying to start anything but a pro staffer is obviously going to say their camera takes the best pictures whether they really do or not. It's proof like the pictures above that can sway people's decision on a camera. Great comparison photos
Thank you guys for all the feedback. I have been leaning towards the covert red 40. Honestly all these pictures look amazing. I will be sure to let u guys know what I go with. Thanks again !!!
Two websites I would recommend going to when looking at trail cameras for more of an unbiased opinion are: http://www.chasingame.com/ http://www.trailcampro.com/ I completely agree GWH! Staff are basically salesmen when it comes to recommending and selling a product. One thing to keep in mind though is if someone is willing to stake their reputation on a product that to me is worth noting. Personally, my reputation is worth more to me than just trying to sell some stuff to maybe get something in return. Experience with the product and believing in a product(s) can be worth it's weight in gold.
I've had good luck with bushnell game cameras. Have had Moultrie and wild game still using them but the Bushnells do a great job. I'll be test my inlaws Covert this yr on the farm so we will see how they do.
I have owned Moultrie and the battery life sucked in them. I have a Cuddeback Capture that I love and I have never had a problem with it. My profile pic was taken with it. But is I had to buy one camera, I would buy the Covert Red 40. That camera is AWESOME! Battery Life is Unreal and it is easy to setup and secure.
I would weigh in, but then again I am on the Covert Pro Staff. But then again, I was using Covert long before I became a pro staffer. Before that, I built my own, and still have 2 of them. They are great cams too, but my Coverts are so much easier to use. And as far as battery life?????? I have never used a cam, where the batteries would last me 6 months. I just put my 2 Red 40's out 2 weeks ago, and I will be surprised if I have to replace the batteries before the snow flies again.
I use Moultrie. I have very good luck with them. I have found not to use cheap batteries. I will be soon purchasing the new panoramic 150. Will keep you updated on here how it goes. I am not a pro staffer, just something I love to do along with my hunting.
