Howdy everyone, like the topic states I'm new to the forum and would like to introduce myself. I was on a different forum and seemed like it was a bash festival, I kind of got tired of it. Someone had mentioned this forum so I have been just peeking at the threads you folks have started. I have look through some threads and it seems friendlier here. I'm not going to mention the other forum. About me: I am a relocated yankee from Franklin, Connecticut. I enlisted in the Army in 2001 when I was 17 and was stationed at Ft. Campbell, Ky. I served with 2nd Bat. 187 Infantry/3-187 Inf after the big Army reform. i medically retired in 2008 and now work with a contractor. I started hunting last year (2012), it wasn't something that was passed on from my family. I was asked to go hunt with a guy last year and a friend let me borrow his Matthews(nice guy). I practiced the night before the hunt just to get the feel for it. i had a chance to shoot a doe, but with my in-experience decided not to take the shot. Still I was pumped to be in the woods just enjoying nature. I bought a PSE rally and have been using it since last year. Not the best bow, but its worked well so far. I shot 2 spikes last year and made good clean kills on them. watched both drop in sight. I tried turkey hunting, I'll just say I learned a lot of what not to do. i got busted a lot by those little buggers. This year I have dropped two bucks (pictures to follow). I love this bow hunting stuff. I gut and process all my own meat. Thanks in advance to everyone, hope you all have a great season. Pictures are in order of harvest. Starting with first ever deer. Last 2 pictures are the same deer. Just got him this past Sunday.
Welcome to the site, there are alot of great people and info on here. This sport is very addicting, but yet more rewarding. Congrats on your harvests and good luck in the future.
I m assuming your still in the Clarksville area? I'm right across the state line in oak grove. Recently separated from the army myself.
Pretty close, I live in Springfield. I know Oak Grove pretty well, well the cat west back in the day haha.
Oh Lord, the cat west. So what archery shops do you head to most often? You do ny of th 3d shoots in the area or strictly hunting?
All hunting. I was going to Riverside pro archery, haven't been there since I bought my arrows for spring turkey. I work in Clarksville but live in Springfield. I know Ck outfitters was a good place. Its out of my way. Other than that I have not really looked around. What unit were you in at Campbell?
Welcome!! West TN native myself still in the corps but hopefully in 8 more yrs will be retiring in the Nashville area. Don't kill all the big ones around there before I get there!! Thanks for your service!! OO-RAH
Hey McArthur... I'm a McArthur as well. Spelled the same way, which doesn't seem all to common. I live in RI and have family from Woodstock, CT, which isn't to far from Franklin. I now hunt out in Plainfield, which is even closer I guess. Any chance you are a descendant of Duncan McArthur? Good to see a fellow "yankee" on the forums... that is rather uncommon it seems too. Good luck this year!!!
That's cool, I'm not sure of the family line. My moms side was Sasarak. I've never really thought to look at the family tree. Who knows, the way my grand father and uncle are, we very well could be related. Very cool. GOod luck out there and welcome to the forum.
