Is there a budget friendly camera out there that people use to self film? I have a contour roam HD camera that I'm mounting on my bow but I don't have a primary. They can run a pretty penny.

I use a Sony Handycam and a GoPro. I will be getting a Tactacam here soon. I started with my Sony Handycam on a cheap camera arm. It works but I will say that self filming is very tough. You will see. LOL

Your gonna need to drop around $1000 for the whole setup if you want anything decent.

    Camera
    Arm
    Mics
    Cards
    Batteries
    Editing software

To be honest right now I'd get anything right now to just to suffice. Beginner packages to advanced pop up all the time on sites like this and AT in their classifieds. Guys get the whole setup planning to get that giant buck killed on film, doesn't work out, and sell. You can pick them up for great prices if you get to them quick!

Budget friendly means not breaking the bank. I see what your saying is it 1000 or 10000 but the average bow hunter on these forums isn't dropping 10s of thousands of dollars on camera gear. So budget friendly means easy on the account and gets the job done

Check out the Cannon Vixia line of HD camcorders. You should be able to get one of those for around 400. That along with a decent camera arm you can be set up for around 500

I have a beginner set up (Cannon Vixia, camera arm etc) I will be selling soon. I would go that route over a Gopro. I have my largest buck killed to date on a go pro and its better than nothing but the beginner set ups have much better quality and give you a taste of what its really like trying to film and edit a hunt.

I started with this. Cheap and easy till I get more experience. Attaches right to a bow hang

I started with a Sony Handicam. It was their cheapest model, CX220. At that time it cost me $200. I think they are around $169 now. They make other models as well around the $200 mark. I've got plenty of videos on my YouTube channel that were shot with it. I have since upgraded but still use the Handicam in some situations. Here is a sample of what the Sony will do.
