    Hello,

I am looking to start hunting this year. I have never hunted before, as I did not grow up in a hunting family. I have also moved states and live in the Houston area, and am not in contact with anyone I'm aware of in the local area who does hunt. What would be the best way to find a mentor? I am enthusiastic but very humble as I know there is much to learn, and just want someone who could take me out once or twice to help show me things to look for.

I have a bow and have been practicing for the last year. I feel very confident in my accuracy within 30 yards, and am working to build my confidence to extend that to 40.

Thanks in advance for all your insight and suggestions.

Welcome and I salute your willingness to learn. Would local archery shops have anyone who would step up to help? Sportsman's clubs? Does the state of Texas have any kind of mentor program? Tennessee started one a few years ago. Good luck.

The Thing I would say is go and become very local to your pro shop near you. Once you become a good customer and friend there someone can point you closer into the direction.

Should not be hard to find a hunt club in Texas.
