First off, Hi everyone, my name is Chris, I am new to bowhunting, and new to this site. I have enjoyed hunting and fishing for a long time, and just recently decided I would give bowhunting a shot. I didn't want to spend a lot of money in case bow hunting or archery in general weren't my thing, so I bought a used bow from a friend of mine, it is a York bow, probably almost 30 years old. Had a new site, string, etc put on it and had it set up for me. The bow is set up about 1" too long on draw length, because unfortunately since the bow was so old, the only set of modules they had close to my draw length were 31", and I should really be shooting about a 30" draw. My question is, any tips on what to use as an anchor point, because I do have to draw it back a little further, I can't use the tip of my nose or lips like some say. I am stuck with this bow for at least a little while, and want to get out in the next couple of months after lots of practice and try and get my first bow deer. Thanks for any advice ahead of time.
Hey Chris, Welcome from Iowa. How about using the knuckles on the back of your hand and find a comfortable spot behind your ear to anchor.?.?
Chris, It sounds like you got an OLDIE on your hands, best advice I can throw out there is get a glove or finger tab and make sure you're shooting with fingers. Those old bows were never meant to be shot with releases, plus if you're shooting with your fingers, you actually gain about an inch or more on your DL so that bow may fit better. Check the CABLES and the string and make sure they are in good shape, and enjoy shooting. When you start looking at upgrades, etc, don't spend any money on that bow, save up some money and you can get a modern bow USED at a very good price here: http://www.archerytalk.com/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=100 Best used bow market in the WORLD, and there are GREAT deals to be had.....
