My father and uncle are both avid bow hunters, and very successful at that. I had a mathews Q2 that I had bought off that uncle when he upgraded to the switchback, but I ended up selling it back to him, as I was a sophomore in college and could use the money.

Regardless, I graduate in may, and with the economy the way it is I am hearing about and seeing many hunters getting rid of their gear, and I want to get myself ready for next years bow season. I am looking for a used mathews, but as there are so many models, and I only know of two or three, I am a total noob as to which "deals" I find to actually pursue.

So what I am looking for is personal opinion on the top models mathews makes that I can look out for used. I am a strong/lean guy so the pulling and all of that stuff is not an issue, just guide me through your opinions and experiences which models of mathews would best suit me, and what accessories/add-ons would be good to look for as far as the stabilizer, arrow rest, sites, etc.

Sorry for the long read and many questions, just have been keeping my eye out lately, and want to know which models to really pursue that I will be happy with as an accurate/fast/quiet/efficient mathews bow.

Thanks guys, ive got my notebook out now.. school me!

    James..

Honestly....your going to have try things out for yourself. I could give you my whole set up, and what i thought, and 10 other guys will say something different. I would suggest going to some pro shops and try out some bows that interest you, and have the different add-ons you are looking for. Then, if the cost at the pro shop is to high for you, check out ebay, and some of the other online sights, like craigslist, local sales, ect... I hope that helps.

so there are no top of the line in reliability and favorites as far as mathews models go? I am just asking because I would not know the difference between the Q2 or the switchback, etc.. just looking for models insight.

Mathews makes very good bows! It's going to come down to personal prefernece. A friend and I were just talking last week about the Mathews bows...i like the reezen and the way it shot. My friend thought it felt terreible in his hands. If your really bent on getting peoples input on a bow...would suggest searching for reviews on the bows you are interested in.

Here is a brief break down of Mathews' flagship models over the last few years.

    2010- Z7
    2009- Reezen, Monster (dual cam)
    2008- DXT
    2007- Drenalin
    2006- Switchback XT
    2005- Switchback

Any of these bows will work great for you. I, personally, shoot a Drenalin and I love it. I would highly recommend going to a dealer, so you can get measured properly for draw length. It'll be much easier and cheaper to get a bow that fits you right, than to get one and have to change cams or limbs.

While you are there, shoot a handful of bows. they will most likely have a good variety to shoot. Then you can be more educated when you go shopping for deals. Then again, the dealer will have deals too, and it's beneficial to have a good working relationship with your local proshop.

I'm sorry, but are you REALLY gonna say the z7 is uglier than ANY of the PSE line???? Those things, albeit fast, look like youre shooting a stinkin Arby's curly fry...

As far as bows, shoot em... its a possibility that not a single mathews bow will feel right. Go to pro shop, cabelas and play some harps...only way you'll find out what works..

from guys i've talked to? they say if mathews were still makin bows like their switchbacks and drenalins... they would still shoot them.. take that for what it's worth..

i bought a mathews legacy a few years back... and i couldnt be any happier with it

man i need to change my name... ya, i'm with ya on the appearance thing... pretty sure if your bow is ugly it'll kill as many deer as if you have a "pretty" bow

Honestly, if you can find a SB or a SB XT, you could get one used at a pretty good price. They were the best bows Mathews put out IMO. Most of the newer bows are just variations and slight improvments. I have also heard good things about the DXT if you can stand the shorter BH. Good luck. I would encourage you to look outside of the Mathews box and shoot some other company's bows, there's plenty of good ones out there, don't limit yourself.

I agree (about shooting other brands). You may like Matthews best, you may not. The best way to know is get some shooting time behind a few different offerings. Good luck!
