Well im new to hunting in general but decided to go with bowhunting, seems a lot more challenging and rewarding than using a rifle. Bought a Diamond Razor Edge, read the reviews and seemed like the best for beginners and wasn't too expensive. Took some time for my arm to get use to using the muscle to pull it back with, been shooting and going hunting the first time with it this coming weekend. Prayin i get my first deer this weekend. Got one question, anyone know the best socks that keep your feet warm? Went hunting a couple weeks ago during gun season and my feet were the only thing that were frozen and i had 2 pair of wool socks on.
Merino Wool is the best material for warm socks. the higher the percentage of wool, the better. I have Smartwool socks (with the liner) and I love them. They were $25, but worth it. If your feet are cold, you are not going to last long at all. I would be misguiding you if I didn't stress the importance of your boots also. This is definitely a combination that has to be in order. What boots do you wear?
Well we were out there for about 5 hours and the last hour is when they started to freeze, the boots i have are carhartt but im hoping to go buy some new ones on friday when i get paid just got to look around to see what would work best. Any suggestions on those too?
I have been bragging about the Danner Pronghorn's 1000 gram Thinsulate ever since I bought them. They are not cheap though. Regular pricing has them at $199, but sometimes they go on sale. I got mine for $160. My brother, Preacher Tony, got a pair of RedHead's from Bass Pro for $99 (on sale) and is as happy with his as I am with mine. Trying them on is important also. I tried on about 6 pair and the Danner's were far superior IMO than all of the others. I tried Rocky's, Irish Setter's, LaCrosses and one other pair I cannot remember. Once I put on the Pronghorn's I was sold. Then it the difficult part was separating with the cash!! Sal
Real hunters do it barefoot... didn't you know? Nah, just kidding. Toasty toes help too, but I find they work better on the top of your foot instead of on the bottom like the directions show.
