Hello all i just made this acct on this forum and look forward to sharing my trophies (the ones you help me get ;)) with each and every one of you. I am literally brand new to bow hunting ive shot a few bows and love it but would like to shoot AT something now. i am 5' 10'' and 160 lbs if that matters, what i ask here is EVERYTHING and ANYTHING you can/want to tell me. dont tell me something you dont know too much about, but, i need to know about bows camos laws scents EVERYTHING about this great sport. i live in beautiful oregon if that matters as well. im looking to pick up an alpine bow. is there a big differences in this years model compared to there last years one? i will easily pay the extra $200 if it means something. if you guys could just point me in the right direction i will be forever greatful. thank you all very much im probably forgetting something so if something needs noting dont hesitate! thank you all again! happy thanksgiving!!

Start with your local bow shop. Too late for this season... Start working on next year... there's a ton to do that will keep you busy.

Ok, I'll throw something your way.

Camo is all personal preference. Realtree and Mossy Oak are the big ones. Some have scent control some don't.

I like lost camo and am getting that for next year.

There are literally hundreds of threads on different forums.

Go to google and search what you want to know. It's what I do about 37 times a day. It's also a lot quicker than waiting for responses on ANY forum.

Sorry, It's almost 2am and I am going to bed.

Personally I prefer Mathews bows. Never seen an alpine. However it's just preference. I recommend Mathews Hoyt or pse. Scouting helps a lot when trying to hunt deer. Log hours in the woods. Practice with your bow a lot. Practice shooting while sitting kneeling with your gloves on with your jacket and backpack. Get comfortable in uncomfortable situations. Go hunt rabbits if legal in the off season. Great practice and good eating too. Uh what else. Oh yeah persistence. This hunting stuff ain't easy. Don't give up or get frustrated if you don't see deer right away. They are not stupid. But most importantly I say have fun. Oh yeah and for camo you really gotta figure out which works for your area and season. I use faded sage. And mossy oak brush in 3d. My two favorite patterns for Cali. I've found real tree ap is pretty good for in the pines.
Shoot me any other questions you have.

I've never really held or shot an Alpine bow, but I have had their accessories! stabilizer and such and I liked it.

Shoot your bow as much as you can and get proficient with it sitting, standing, kneeling elevated (from atreetstand). Heck, I even practice while laying on my back (sometimes for fun)

Practice practice practice and you'll get better and better. good luck.

Never shot an alpine, but I would go to your local pro shop and buy something there. Then , they can help u set it up and get started shooting it. Pretty much any bow that u will buy will outshoot any of our capabilities. I would get a couple trail cams and put them out asap and run them throughout the winter and summer. This will help u get an idea as to where to find the deer

A "trophy" buck is a buck that you have harvested, and that you are proud of. The definition of a trophy is different to everybody.

SCOUT, SCOUT, SCOUT the area you will be hunting! Find where the deer bed, feed, travel, the more you know about the deer herd the more you will increase your chance for success! Also practice shooting a lot until you are confident in your shot. In my few years of hunting I have learned that persistence pays, so keep at it even if you aren't having much luck. good luck this season :)

Just trail cams so you know where to find em. scent free clothes wash and spray.

Wash your clothes at home and spray them down when you get out of the truck. SLOWLY walk through the woods and look for evidence that the deer visit that spot regularly. put a trail camera up in that location.
Play the wind... 9 times out of 10, if a whitetail is down wind from you, it's gone. So, the wind is most Crucial. Rubber boots and rubber gloves help to not transfer your scent onto cameras, stands, sticks, trees. so i would strongly suggest rubber boots and gloves.

Set up a stand upwind from your camera location about 20 yards away and hunt the crap out of it. make sure you spray yourself with your scent elimination spray every time you go hunt.

Shoot the crap out of your bow and good luck!

EDIT: The majority of the time you want the wind blowing into your face while you're in the stand..

You need to learn what your going to need after the shot. How you plan to harvest your deer and the tools you are going to need. Look over my thread in Game Processing " Field Dressing 101" this will lead you in the right direction. You need good knives and I recommend havalon. The bow you go with needs to be a brand you can service as needed. Get arrows that are safe and hit hard. Practice shooting a lot in the off season.

Good luck brother! It can become all consuming.

What I learned (as this is my first season and been hitting it hard since Oct. 6th) is hunting on the ground, look for trails that lead into and through the woods, follow a trail until it intersects or meets with another trail, setup about 20-30 yards off the trail. Hunting in the stand, BE SAFE, remember harness and be careful up there as one step could be it.

As for Alpine... I haven't talked to much people that have shot or even heard of the brand... Go to your local proshop and talk to the professionals there. Most bows shoot past any of our capabilities.

Here in Iowa, Mossy Oak Break Up Infinity is my whole suit and works great, it's more of a green based pattern. I've had fork bucks walk 10 yards of me while ground hunting in the woods and not even see me. Scent Blocker makes good scent spray as well.
