I have questions concerning odor eliminating clothes: From what I have read from most of you, we bowhunt because we find it more challenging than hunting with a gun. Now, suppose there were clothes that would eliminate your scent entirely (pretend with me for a moment, please). My questions are: 1.Would you buy and use these clothes? 2.Wouldn't that make the hunt less challenging or is bowhunting challenging enough and you want total scent elimination to help you? Personally, if they made clothes that totally eliminated your scent I still would not buy them. But that is the way I want to hunt and I realize everyone is not the same.
Depends. Personally I think that you could be dipped in scent eliminating juice, be trained to move silent by ninjas , use a cloaking device from the CIA and still get busted by whitetails. I bowhunt, yes because its a challenge, but more so because it allows me 3 and a half months to indulge in my obsession with whitetails and the outdoors. I already use scent sprays and scent "eliminating" clothing, so I'm sure I'd look into it. Like you said, no one is the same. Its like traveling across the country. Some of us would rather take a 1962 Harley, others a 2009 Porcshe, some would be flown in a private jet like Al Gore, and well, Forrest Gump ran across the country. We're headed to the same place, we all just enjoy the journey a bit differently.
With the advantage deer have with their nose, and ears, we take what we can get. I have noticed an improvement as to how close I can get by doing the de-scenting ritual, but if the wind is right, they'll bust. Would I buy, I own a carbon suit now. Whether or not it actually works, which I think it does, puts my mind at ease anyway.
I would wear it if it didn't cost more than regular camo. I wore scent blocking clothes and non blocking this year and found no advantage to the scent eliminating stuff. Truth be told I'll take a good pattern like U.C. Or Predator over all the Realtree and Mossy patterns with scent blocking.
I would probably not buy it, use the same scent regiment I have had success gun-hunting with and concentrate on better set-ups for strictly bowhunting. But then again, of all the deer I have shot with a gun, 80% would have been within bow range.
Hunt with the wind in your favor, that works better than any clothing, spray, smoke, or any other thing you can buy.
I think the process of picking a stand based on the wind is part of the fun. Sure I drive myself nuts trying to make a decision sometimes, but it is one of the things I love about hunting whitetails. I still find myself checking the wind direction out of habit even though the season has been over for a couple weeks.
