    I’ve thought about changing the string on my bow until last year. I finally remembered to replace it this year. I didn’t know that the strings were specific to each bow. Shame on me! So a couple of weeks ago after calling around to BassPro, Cabalas, Gander Mountain, and Sheels I decided to take it to my local archery shop. Timbuktu in Maryville, IL. I explained that I have never changed this string before and that the bow was purchased in 1999. They were surprised I wasn’t in the hospital after firing it.
    To cut to the chase they explained that this string was old and after this long it stretches. They were finally able to make a guess on the appropriate length and so they finally got it in. I picked the bow up last night and began to fire it.
    1st shot a foot high and 6 inches to the left:violin:
    2nd shot a foot high but centered.:violin:
    3rd shot 6 inches low??? I must have goofed:sad:
    Move my site up.
    1st shot center of target. (Dead On):woot::rock::nana:
    2nd shot 6inch left:mad::mad:
    3rd shot 6 inch high:mad::mad:
    WTF
    At this point I had to leave. Father in-law was at the house and he brought dinner.
    My advice to anyone out there with an older bow is not to wait till the end of the summer to get a new string. If it’s been a while since you got a new string, the chances are that it will need completely re-sighted in. Two weeks prior to opening day is not a good time to re sight a bow at the shooting range. Everyone and their mothers are there shooting their bows.
    Fortunately, we finally received our first rain after 2 months,:nana: and my how backs to a huge drainage ditch. On the other side is where I place my target.
    Unfortunately, I’ll have to wear waders to shoot my bow at home. The Archery Range is my only option now.

    Makes me not want to replace my string EVER. I hated the sighting/ tuning process and never want to go back to that point.

    Take it back to the proshop if it's not shooing well. Make sure you shoot it a little bit to make sure it's not you. How far away are you shooting to get a 6"difference?

    I've usually never gone more than 3 years without new strings. Granted this isnt me being proactive, it usually results from some sort of mishap (like when that darn spider crawled across my string and the better part of fear took over and I whacked at it with the arrow in my hand. I hate spiders). Ive always had to sight it in, but it's definitely never been that off.

    Side note: I used to live in Collinsville. Get some Bobby's ice cream tonight for me, I miss that place :(

    I had Bobby's last night. Oreo light concrete. They stated that I was shooting a very much stretched out string. I’m pretty sure, it being the 1st time shooting this year helped out on my 6” difference, that’s why I didn’t make a big deal of it. I plan on going back tonight and shoot a lot. I was shooting at 20 yards.

    Yes you will have to re-tune and re-sight your bow. It's possible that your nocking point has moved. But you need to break the new string in also before you get too carried away with tuning. New strings will stretch as they get brocken in. If you can get atleast 200 shots through it that'd be a start.

    Good luck getting her dialed in for the season.
