I was flipping thru my deer cam pics from this year and started comparing them to pics from the year before. All year I was wondering where all my of hopeful bucks from last year had gone, especially a buck I called Uprights. Upon my investigation it occurred to me that he may not have disappeared after all. Compare the two and give me your thoughts. I saw this buck this year on multiple occasions and called him Bashful, since he was scared of grunt and bleat calls. This year he was about 15 1/2 wide. Notice small G4 on the left, brow tines look very similar, spindly tines, and basically straight up G2's. Now, maybe I am just wishful dreaming but I feel it might be Uprights (First two pics are from 2012, second two from 2013)
Right! That's sort of why I didn't see the similarities right away, and it may not be him, but regardless I hope he sticks around another year... He'll be a beast!! Then we can bet some more beer on it
I can see why you would question it. It is tough because he is coming at you in 2012 and going away in 2013. The 2013 buck looks bigger in the body to me. My gut feeling is no. I think the 2012 buck is maybe a 3 1/2, but could be 4 1/2 and at that age should have added a lot more bone that what the 2013 deer is showing. I think the 2012 buck should have added 15% at a minimum.
The buck in the 2012 pics are of a 2 1/2. Compare him to this 3 1/2. I think the buck in the 2013 pics is a 3 1/2 as well.
I think it could easily be the same deer. His body size increasing is the only fairly sure bet...sometimes deer simply don't gain much antler between 3.5 and 4.5 (which I feel he is). I'm not even sure he gained that much weight overall to be honest. Pics from last year are in Oct while this years are well into the rut. My vote is same deer.
I would also like to add, that regardless if he is the same deer or not, I want him to stick around for another fall
I'm from the same area, I had a 4 year old that went down this year. We had a tough winter/spring that set antler growth back in some deer. I'm not sure its the same deer, but looks very possible.
Looks like it is same deer to me....body structure changes in a year can be substantial...but also look at the dates...2012 was pre-rut swell 2013 was during or post. I say if not the same deer possible brothers separated by a year.
