New shoes for the twenty-five hundo!

    Alright guys, I never thought I would get this many replies. First off, thanks for checking out my truck. It has been a dream of mine ever since I started driving to have a slightly lifted (in this case, leveled) truck with some cool looking rims and tires. Back when I first started driving, there wasn't much in the way of wheel and tire choices for 8 Lug trucks. Many of you know, you got a set of BF Goodrich Mudders and some Mickey Thompson Classic wheels and you were pimping.

    I am amazed now how many different rims there are out for trucks now, especially ones with better than factory ratings on strength. For those who wanted to know, the rims are Moto Metal 950's (18x8). From the very start I had the rims picked out, I just didn't know what tires I wanted. I thought about picking up the new BFG KM2's but after a lot of research, I went with the a set of Toyo Open Country M/T's (33x12.50.18) . The greatest part is, these Toyos have a better load rating (E's) than my previous set of Wranglers (D's).

    When I first saw these tires mounted last fall at the tire shop I bought them from all I could think was, lots of noise, poor ride quality, and terrible wear. I could never have been more wrong in my life. These tires are EXTREMELY quiet for as aggressive as the tread is. The ride quality is suffering more from a lack of good shocks than tires and/or leveling kit. The wear has been even so far, (approximately 1000 miles on the tires now). I am planning on rotating them at the very least, every 3000 miles. I would like to consider even somewhere between 1000-2000 miles.

    Even with the leveling kit I had to hack up some stuff to get these babies to roll. At full compression and full wheel I barely rub, but it took a little cutting with the Sawzall to wrestle things into working order. I am happy to say, the rubbing is only present at full wheel, full compression.

    Overall, I am happy with the way it turned out. The truck isn't just a pavement pounder either. I make sure she gets put to good use out on the farm. Today I hauled WAAAAAAY more than legal limits (15,000 lbs. of seed alone, not including trailer weight). It gets put to use. The only thing I really was craving when hauling that load today was the sweet sound of a turbo and lots of black smoke. Maybe a few years down the road I'll have a smoker.

    John, if I remember, I will take a picture of my truck tomorrow. It is a mess after beating down gravel roads the past three days. It surely doesn't look "TOO CLEAN" now.

    Speaking of farm, spring has been rough, so my lack of free time really cuts into me visiting Bowhunting.com. If I make it out of spring alive, I'll try and stop in more this summer. Hopefully everyone is doing well. I'll try and throw a few more close-ups of the rims and tires in there, plus what the truck looks like from the front and the back. (Buckeye, you'll think she is really sittin' tough from the front and back).
