picked this old gal up yesterday, shes a 66 F100 with little to no rust!! Shes been sitting in a barn since 2000, shes been in the same family since new , I bought her from the grandson of the original owner. she only has 76k miles and has great patina !
Now that's a fun project. I dated a guy way back when, that rebuilt a model A with a rumble seat and his brother rebuilt a model T to original specs. Lots of traveling gathering original parts and to swap meets.Have fun, nice find.
its all surface rust from sitting in the barn.rockers, cab corners, floors are all solid as a rock. only bad rust is one small 6"x4" spot in the bed where grandpaw sat a bag of driveway salt in the bed and forgot it, thats a easy patch.
Yep, the old inline 6 is locked up tight thou. Ive got it soaking with marvel mystery oil in the cylinders in the hopes that it will break loose. If it refuses to budge and I have to pull it the 6 will not go back in. Ill drop a 352 or a 390 with a 4 speed in her.
That's awesome! I'm a Ford guy and want to get another old truck. When I was a teenager I bought a 55 f100. It had 3 on the tree and 289 mustang motor in it. But being a poor kid, never had the money to fix it up the way I wanted. Then life got in the way and I sold it. Right now I wouldn't mind finding a 60's short bed. Awesome ride. Make sure you give the fuel and brake system along with the suspension a thorough check over, likely you'll have some needs there. The engine itself and tranny will undoubtable need some initial work. Reminds me, now that the weather is warming up and evenings will soon be light longer, I need to start helping my neighbor with his 1929 Desoto.
Sweet ride. If the Marvel doesn't work, try some Kroil. Amazing stuff. As sweet as it is, it would be awesome if it stayed original.
you are right on that, and it works miracles in a neglected engine. If you run it for a bit instead of oil it will clean everything out without trashing the bearings or rings.
Back in the day..... my best friends' older brother had a junkyard and when he had a vehicle come in with a motor that he could sell, he'd have us go out in the yard, drain the oil and refill the engine with 2 quarts of fresh oil and 2 quarts of Marvel. Then he would have us drive the heck out of the car/truck, get it really hot and then drain that mix out, pull the engine and add new oil. He sold a lot of engines and we had a lot of fun "cleaning out the engines."
the old inline 6 aint budging, if I gotta pull the engine I figure I might as well put an v8 in it. I picked up a early 60's 352 big block off the old interwebs for 200 bucks and tore it down last night, I was pleasantly surprised that it was in decent shape. I dropped the block. crank and heads off at the machine shop this morn. Im having a minimal bore done on the block and plan to rebuild it back stock other than install a mild cam a, I have a holly 650 that will get rebuilt to go on it. Its breaks, suspension , fuel system, and rear end will all have to be addressed. Plan to change out the front breaks to a disc system
