Hello All, I'm a brand new crossbow hunter from Central PA. I hunted all my life with a .270 and a 30-30, so I'm excited to get out this season and experience an entirely new type of hunt. I have a brand new Wicked Ridge, and after extensive research I settled on the G5 MegaMeat broadheads. I'll be hunting out of a tree stand to start out. Any advice and/or trade secrets that can help get me started would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, and happy hunting! Dizzy
Two things. Since you're a CB hunter, which I am as well, some may not consider you an "archer" On a more serious note, the very best advice I can give you is ALWAYS wear a safety harness while hunting from a tree stand!! Best of luck to you this season.
Thanks for the advice! My father in law and I have been making sure all of the stands have a dedicated lifeline this year. Saves the hassle of trying to buckle in when you get to the top.
My advice is tune into your transitional spots or changes in habitat. Additionally, take some time to look into how thermals work in the area you are hunting. Thermals rise in mornings and drop at night. Transitions to key in on.. 1) Bedding to Bedding - seeking phase and rut 2) Bedding to Food - all season 3) Food to Food - early-mid season 4) Bedding to Water - my favorite when it comes to patterning a buck during the seeking phase rut. Changes in habitat - this is where perhaps a marsh meets a field, or a hardwoods stand of timber meets a conifer stand.
Welcome! Fellow PA hunter… best advice I can give is just enjoy your time in the stand. Don’t overthink it and play the wind.
