I understand what you are saying but an honest person won't "fall off of the fence". Perhaps this will make it easier for cheaters to cheat but then they were just chicken**** cheaters anyway, they just didn't have the balls to try it before. If you (anyone) need a physical check in system to keep you honest, how honest are you really. You are right, a poacher will poach either way.

    This happened last year:

My buddy got his first deer (doe) with a bow last year off of a cornpile behind his house. We were both ecstatic. He wants to get a second doe but public ground and his limited time do not get it done so a few weeks later he is on his cornpile again. He shoots the second deer of his life with a bow, sees it fall and decides to let it lay while he calls it in. He calls in his second doe and gets the confirmation number. So, now he goes to get the deer and, OH NO! it is a spike, NOT a doe. Unfortunately there is no mechanism that we could find for correcting the mistake. This situation is a bummer in multiple ways. In MD you cannot shoot a second buck unless you take two does so now he is done buck hunting and the rut hasn't even started. Long story short, we get out in the pre-rut and I set him up in a good spot on this ridge. It is a very good spot for does or bucks. I go north up the ridge to my spot and jumb a great buck and a doe. The head to the west side of the ridge away from me. Come to find out this buck eventually ended up less than 20 yards in front of my buddy. Now this was a great buck for us and he couldn't shoot it. Later, when I saw him he told what happened. Now, he could have shot it and NEVER been found out to have cheated except by himself and me. The thought never crossed his mind. My point is, honest folks are honest and don't fall of the fence when it becomes easy to do so.

The new system is suppose to help the hunter. But I feel that it may limit the honest hunter. The other thing that is going to happen is people checking in there deer in zones. Saying they shot it in Zone B when it was actually shot in Zone C.

ODNR is hiring more wardens but I do not see this helping the situation. Same thing is happening with Waterfowl and now longer having to report birds shot.
