Hello everyone, any Licking County hunters on here ? I'm new to hunting, never harvested a deer. I've hunted the last two years (if you would call it hunting, lol) during gun season. I went with my father-in-law but his idea of hunting is walking through the woods for a couple of hours and then he's had enough.....not a very successful method if you ask me. This season will be different, hopefully ! I was at an archery facility taking my CCW class and during one of our breaks I started a conversation with a fella who worked there about bows. Just talking with this guy got me excited about trying bow hunting this year. So bow hunting it shall be ! Now if I could find some extra cash lying around, this could get expensive ! Anyway, i look forward to learning from you guys (gals?) and hopefully make some new friends along the way.
Thanks Tom, i was checking out your website and I have a couple of questions that maybe you could answer for me. Forgive my ignorance but why do you loosen the soil before applying the minerals ? Can you suggest how much to loosen the soil ? Sorry if those are stupid questions but I am a newb to hunting.
Sounds like your in the #1 county in ohio for book bucks, I'll be hunting that county this season, probably the last week in october. welcome to the site!
Craze those are definetly not dumb questions. I like to make sure I get all of the vegetation out of the area. I also like to mix the minerals right in with the dirt. I use a hand rake so I only loosen the top inch or so, and the deer will do the rest. If you have any other questions just let me know.
Thanks for the explanation, makes sense now. I'll be placing an order soon. I have a nice spot in mind, I found an area right beside a trail that's only 5 yards away from a creek.
James that sounds like a perfect spot. I really like making my mineral sites near water when possible.
Welcome! I harvested my first deer last season (at 30 yrs old) with my bow and was hooked right away. Good luck!
