So Monday the 8th (our thanksgiving) is a new moon. Any reference to what time a guy should plan to hunt? I prefer evenings right now, but with a new moon, some of the references I use.. I.E (best feeding times) which is probably just a joke, suggests that best feeding time for deer on a new moon is mid day.. i was considering a sit from 10Am- to dark, im not confident in getting into my blind before day light. or should i just plan to sit the afternoon since it is October and that could make for a long long day..? obviously trail cams will prove to be the final say, however a new moon must have some effect on deer movement?? Also, to mention, the bucks i have been after have gone nocturnal nearly every day.. any advice would be great
Next week is the first week I scheduled off to hunt this year, way back in like June I scheduled it. The temp dropped here 15-20° this past weekend but I'm on call so I couldn't get out. Now the forecast for next week is back up in the mid 80s every day until Friday... I'm planning on being in my stand before daylight and until after sunset every day. Might come in for a few hours around noon to eat lunch depending on how the days are going but otherwise my theory is that no matter how many teams you hear "the hunting is better after a full moon at noon" "you can't hunt the middle of the day when it's hot like that" "the new moon makes them sleep in late" etc etc etc you can't kill a deer on sitting on your couch in the living room in front of the tv. If you wanna be in the woods then hit the woods man, I know I'm going to! Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk
Evan , my experience with the moons effect on deer movement is that the full moon can have a huge impact on deer movement but new moon not so much. Observations and trail cam pics show that deer typically have normal feeding patterns (feeding at twilight periods) during new moons but will definitely alter there schedules with a full moon. Mid-day movement is MUCH more common with a full moon. The late Alsheimer predicted that this year (2018) would mark the earliest peak chasing period in all his years doing his rut predictions (Oct.28). If I were you I would keep hunting evenings as you are then do all day sits come the end of the month, full moon being Oct.25. If you havent overhunted your area by then, you will start seeing bucks during daylight. Good luck and whack a Biggie
