Hey, I am new to the forum and also to hunting. I am 23 years old and I live in Chesapeake, VA. I joined to try to learn as much as I can and maybe find some locals who I can get involved in the sport with. I still need to get my Hunters Safety Course completed but otherwise I'm ready to go. Already have start acquiring gear. I've been shooting for multiple years but never had the chance to get into this sport. Looking forward to picking up my first bow and starting to practice. Thanks, Brian
Thanks MadMan. So I've been looking around at bows. I went to Huntersfriend.com and was looking at their packages. The company came highly recommended to a buddy of mine which amusingly I got him interested in bow hunting and I haven't even gotten into it myself. I was interested in the BowTech Assassin. I really like what I've read about the Matthews bows but they are expensive for a first bow. But then again you get what you pay for. Going to keep researching for a bit until I make my choice. Any suggestions and any tips on what to look for in a bow are welcomed. Going to put the "search feature" to work here on the forum.
Check out Wilcox Bait and Tackle on Jefferson Ave. Awesome people, good prices, and you can shoot whatever bow you want. Welcome from Newport News
Hey, Thanks! Yeah I was referred to them by some people when I was at Bass Pro but couldn't remember the name. I'll have to swing by and check it out. Do you know if they sight / tune the bows to your specs when you buy from them? I know that's one thing that Huntersfriend.com does with their package bows. You fill out all the information then they send the bow already setup.
Lol Brian, they do everything but kill the deer for you. Lots of knowledge there. Tom Wilcox is a great guy, and he has knowledgeable staffers too. They're building my bow right now (had to wait for it to come in on order) but i got to shoot 4 dfferent bows before i decided. I got the Axion 5 pin .019 sight, QAD ultra rest hd, Axion 4" stabilizer (all in lost camo), and a harmonic dampener. they build it, zero it, and ensure you're a happy customer support the mom-and-pop shops!
Sounds perfect! I'm definitely going to stop by. How much did it run you out to door for your new setup?
500 bare bow, 130 for the rest, 50 for the sight, dnno about everything else. i paid like 700 some out the door
That's not bad at all. I wonder if I should just go all out and get like a Mathews Z7 Extreme or something haha.
I live behind hanbury village, about a mile from 7-11.... are you out by hickory high/middle school? I pass it everytime I go hunting Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk
The few times I have gone were on private property in NC. But once I get my hunters saftey course done I was going to try to find a hunt club to possibly join. I've heard different stories from they are strict and don't teach to it's a great way to learn. I'm brand new to hunting. I've been a few times but it wasn't the best experiences. I've never been bow hunting and hopefully going to look at picking up my first bow in a few weeks.
