Going to look at a new hunting club next week and plan on putting up a couple of cameras to get an idea of the type of deer before I commit to the club. I have a couple of places in mind but wanted to get some other opinions on a good starting point or were bedding areas or pinch points are. The land is mostly on the left side of the picture all on the mountain, but is over 1,000 acres. ( Sections 1 and 12 and a little bit of the sections next to them). It is all hardwoods with no pine a few food plots scattered ( don't know where yet). The club allows 25 or so hunters, and I hope most don't bow hunt so I should have the whole place to myself before rifle season starts. Thanks.
Well 1000 acres with 25 people on it so best conditions every one would get around 40 acres to hunt but I dont think they have it section out like that. If it isnt to expensive give it a shot
Yeah 25 hunters on 1000 acres is a bit tough in my mind. I personally don't like the idea of any less then 100 acres per hunter. Might sound a bit greedy but if you want to manage for good quality bucks I think its worth it. But, if the price is real good, and if you can get a good tour of the place, and if the club members seem like a good group, I say its worth a shot.
And heck, I didn't see you were from AL, that's even worse in my book. Unless the club limits the amount of deer you are aloud, I would be careful on that. I know they allow a pretty good number of bucks each year for you guys down there. If 25 guys can each kill even 2 each, that's 1 buck every 20 acres avg. But if they limit guys to 1 buck each, that's not as bad.
no limits, but they do follow QDMA guidelines. I don't think all 25 are avid hunters, I believe most are opening day, holiday and rut hunters. Alabama you can kill 3 bucks a year one having to have 4 points on one side or more, and two does a day. I plan on hunting places that other guys don't want to hike to, and do a little more homework than some of the others.
Heck yeah if you don't have any other decent spot its worth a shot in my book. It could end up being really good! keep us posted!!
I are not going to get into this club. If I am paying for land to hunt I want to stay in it for many years. This club does zero habitat management. No green fields, no clear cuts, no fruit tree planting. There are deer there, but we think we can hunt public and a handful of small private peices and kill some good deer this year, and keep looking for another club. Thanks for the input.
