I have an irrigation idea. Looking for some input or additional ideas. The plot we have is away from any water. But in a lower area. The plot has been overcome by ditchweed. Gonna spray, start over. My idea for next year is some irrigation. A deep creek is about 200-300 feet away. The idea i have is a 12v battery, solor charger, blower motor, drill powered pump and alot of hose. Using a timer of some sort is an issue im working on. A sprinkler is an idea, but just thinking ill make some furrows and allow the water to run naturally. Trying to be cheap as possible but any ideas or tips would be appreciated.

It takes alot to move water. Even if you used a submersible pump in the creek you would have to make sure you have a pump with enough HP to do the job. Also you are going to have to make some sort of screen so the pump doesnt get plugged. Another thing you have to consider is how much lift is there, that will affect what HP you need as well. How much water is in the ditch? If the water runs low and the pump runs dry you will burn up the impellars.

I did this for my food plots this past weekend. We bought a gas powered pump from TSC, 20 feet of suction hose, and 700 feet of garden hose. We pump water from the river through our swamp and into our food plots. The only downfall we have is having to re-fuel and start the pump. We have two sprinklers hooked up at the ends of ours but you could do drip irrigation or anything really. I see where having battery power/solar panels with a timer would really help in that you wouldn't have to make as many trips to go back and re-fuel and what not. Make sure you have a good filter/screen like Monsterraxx mentioned. We had one at first but dirt was still getting through and the sprinklers got clogged. We bought some cloth and some hose clamps to put over the filter and now it keeps all the crap out. It's SO dry everywhere! Had to get water on the plots somehow! Good luck and I hope you get your plots watered good!

I wonder if a 12v pump would have the power to do this. I had been thinking about ways to do this myself.

I think it will. The screen i have thought about and is a must. The creek is 5 feet or better deep. So supply is no issue. Total elevation rise isnt more than a few feet. If i cant run a sprinkler than i will go with just a run off option. Any one know if those cheap 120v timers will operate with 12the voif wired properly or if there is a 12v timer out there? This is just an idea. I appreciate the ideas. Keep em cominn, im all ears.
