Hello all, Looking for as much advice, tips, etc. as I can get. I'm completely new to hunting. It's something I've always thought about but being the only "hunter" in my family, it took a while to get started. I have a new bow and a climbing stand. HELP ME LEARN!!! Thank you all. EDIT: Also, I may be doing this on my own for a while.
Welcome to the site and the Wonderful World of Bowhunting! I hunt by myself 99% of the time. If you are going to be hunting alone, Buy a Lifeline and a Safety Harness ASAP!! I won't hunt ANYWHERE alone without them!
Glad that you found us. Join in the conversation. A lot of very knowledgeable people here that will answer your questions. ENJOY!
Welcome to the bow hunting world.. Do you homework on the land and the rest will come in time.. Trail cams and food sources are your friends to keep inventory of your animals you are going to hunt!
Welcome to the addiction! Ask your questions... Some or many will have the answers. You'll learn to ignore anything Elkguide says on any forum that has to do with hunting or fishing. He's really good in the joke department though. But, if you wait and ask your questions after dark:30 in the Eastern time zone, he will already be in bed.
I'm from Illinois. Chicago suburb area. One thing I wonder is how I find where to hunt. Not the piece of land, but on that piece of land what signs do I look for, for deer presence. And before the season starts what do I need to do on said land to know where what spot to sit in during the season?
Welcome, and be patient. Start off on public land and spend as much time you can in the woods. I have been hunting (not bow hunting) for 20+ years and I am still learning. Have fun with it, don't get frustrated and don't give up. Enjoy your surroundings, join a gun club or Archers club meet some new friends or mentors. I had a old man help me out when I was younger but I learned to be a good woodsman on my own. Good luck and don't be afraid to ask questions
I'm brand new myself... Just purchased a Bear Archery Attitude and I'm PUMPED!!! I am going to be working with a buddy of mine who has been hunting for years and years to earn as much as I can. I too have similar questions. How do we actually find pubic land to hunt on? Once we have identified an area what signs do you go into the woods looking for to actually track and find deer? I am assuming I should be working now to identify prime hunting locations for this fall. Thanks
I've read the regs on the permits, and there's either Sex or a/o. Those are the only two? Both are sold OTC? I'm assuming a/o is mainly for does, and either sex is for the bucks and does. Is this correct?
