    Hello,
This year will be my son's first year hunting in archery season. Question for the Dads out there: what was your stand set up? Did you use a double ladder stand or did you use two hang ons?

Double ladder stand is cheaper, but when he is ready to sit by himself, he already has a stand if we do hang ons.

Anyone do two saddles with kids?

He will be using a regular bow.

    Thanks!

How old is he? Both of my older boys are teenagers. I first started them out in preset lock ons and I would hang in my saddle and platform on the back side of the tree. My oldest now hunts solo in a climber, middle son still hunts with me.

I’ve used a 2 man ladder stand with my son and or daughter. Then I’ve also used a a climber next to the 2 man ladder stand. I was lucky that the trees were close though.

All yours options are great. I would say it depends on what weapon will he be using?

If crossbow, go ladderstand. If bow, go with lock on or saddle. The first time i took my daughter, i put her in a saddle. We went up about 6 feet, maybe 1 stick high and shared a platform. She loved it, the ability to swing around and it was completely safe because she was always tethered in. She wasnt shooting, just going on a hunt with me. Ended up having multiple deer come by, and she got to experience that.

My son and I built one. 6 ft tall, 6 ft wide. Put a pop up blind on it. Assuming a weyerhauser idiot doesn't run over it, it will last until I am done hunting. That being said, we also have a another pop up blind on the ground and will be adding a couple tree stands next year in some different areas.

For a child’s first archery season, most dads recommend hang-on stands over a double ladder stand. Hang-ons are lighter, easier to move, and allow your son to sit independently when he’s ready. Some families do use two saddles or hang-ons for flexibility, but the key is safety. Always use a harness and supervise until he’s comfortable. Hang-ons also provide better shooting angles and stability for a regular bow compared to a double ladder stand.

Really depends on how you are hunting. On your own land a double ladder stand is a no brainer, you won't regret the extra room and bigger platform.

All depends on hunting style and age of the kids. I personally used lock-ons with my daughter. She has always been part monkey anyway. I have the climbing safety tethers on all my stands. she never has had an issue.
