25 acre farm to hunt this fall. So far, I've been able to scout last winter and this summer and here's what I've found. Blue=pond or creeks Red=deer trails Black=hunter access to stand 1 or 2 B=beds, maybe temporary at stand 1 Also spotted some scrapes just North of stand 1 Both stand locations are also the site of very old "homebuilt" wood stands. Not sure if this is going to be a morning or evening hunting spot. My concern is sneaking into stand 1 and spooking deer that may be bedded or in the field. I still have some more scouting to do to determine what time/direction they move in. Thanks for any tips on stand placement and getting in to the stand.
I really like hunting corners. Always have good luck see and shooting deer. I would monitor the corner above Stand 2 by that deer trail and bedding area.
Small pieces of land are hard to sneak into before sun up without pushing deer off, I would keep it to afternoons
Yes, I have to say I'm concerned about the size of the property, but I'm told previous owners shot plenty. I may have the benefit also of having greenacres (no hunting) to the South and a larger hunted farm to the North. The farm to the North may drive them to me. I'm going to watch the fields again this wk and try to see travel direction. Right now it looks like from the East and southeast.
Use the already established roads until you can slip down into the creek. Walk the Creek/Creek bank as far as you can, then pop out of the creek bottom and walk directly to your stand. It's not the quickest way but It will be the most effective.
