Last weekend I went with my friend up to his land near Rockton, WI. It was him and I and a few others that came to hunt. He was sitting about 200 yards behind me over a ridge when I heard him bleat twice to get a running deer to stop running past him. It was funny because he had asked us what to do in that situation when we were sitting around the campfire the night before. I heard him shoot and hit a tree (it definitely wasn't that sweet thud sound when you hit a deer) so I knew he had missed. I walked up to help him look for blood or hair but didn't find anything. After looking through the downed piles of leaves we found his arrow shattered into piece with no blood or hair on the broadhead, thankfully a clean miss. The best part of it all was, 30-45 minutes after he had shot, and finding out he had for sure missed, he was still shaking and smiling. That's what huntings all about. That rush you get when those deer come running. It's not all about always taking down a trophy. In this case though his trophy was a small sapling that he smoked at 20 yards. This is why I love hunting. The thrill and the smiles. Good luck this year everyone!
Yeah it does. Was just a nice reminder of why we are all out there (besides shooting the big boys) A nice crash course refresher on why bowhunting is the best
I have been hunting Deer for 28 years and bow hunting for 16 years and till this day my heart still pounds like crazy when I see a deer (even a yearling). Very few things in life are as challenging as bagging a deer with a bow. Sounds like he has caught the bug.
