My new CST is in today and I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on the best string? Also thoughts on arrows? Currently shooting Easton FMJ 400's with my 70lb zx7 Extreme, my bowshop is recommending the 340's. Would appreciate any feedback! Thanks.

Are you looking to change out the string right away? I have always shot new bows with the factory string for awhile before changing it out or replacing it.

I ordered a Winners Choice string at the same time I ordered my bow last year. I had it installed on my bow before I picked it up. I've shot it a lot and it still looks perfect.

I am putting JBK bowstrings on my old alpha max. He has a 2 year warranty on them and is highly regarded. Check them out. And unless you have a short DL you probably could have been shooting 340's at 70,and at least 340's on 80. I am thinking about switching to FMJ and will probably go with 340's at 29/65.

340's seem awfully lite spined to me for an 80# draw weight. They were a bit wimpy for my Element at 78#.

Congrats on the new bow, we need pics BTW, lol.

Like covey said, .340 is still a little on the weak side for 80 pounds. You can probably get away with a .340 if you use a 100 grain tip. I would try a few and find out. The easton axis would fly awesome out of it and that shaft is pretty good so the .340 in that shaft would be a good fit I think.

Welcome, sounds like you are going to have a sweet bow. I agree with the spine of those, I shoot a 70# and I shoot .300. Post some pictures when you get it all set up.

I agree with the others, I shoot a .340 with a 125 gr. out of my 70 lbs Creed XS. I would talk to your local shop and have them help you figure out a good arrow build for your draw weight and length.

I'd go with a .300 spine at that high of a dw. Possibly .250, depending on the aggressiveness of the cams. Never shot one, so I don't know. I shoot .340 with my Ballistic at 68 lbs. They seem to be a lot more consistent than the .400s were.

First, thank you all for the excellent feedback. I should have joined her a while ago! I'm going with Winners Choice for the string, since I shoot 100 grain fixed blade (no mechanical in my state of ID) they recommended 340. The owner has the carbon spyder turbo set about 72-73 and I shot his with the 340 spine FMJ and loved it. I knew I should have told him no when he asked me if I want to shoot it! :-)
Pics coming tomorrow when it's all fitted out, my Montana Black Gold site came in today. Can't wait! You guys are great, thanks again for the help.

I gave my shop a call and asked to have 340 and 300's ready for me to shoot. My draw length is 29.5 and @ 80 lb the 340 may be a little wimpy as y'all pointed out.

fired a couple of the 340 FMJ's through it and I'm going with the 300's, thank you all again for the recommendation. I'll post some final pics when it's done.

I'd go with Bowstring Depot. PM Huntch N son archery on here. He builds a great string. I would stay away from the big name companies, but that is just me. Not had good luck with what i'd call quality.

Man, .300 spine FMJs at 80#... That'll pass through the deer and the tree behind it!
