Hello everyone. This past Saturday I purchased a Hoyt Raider bow. I got a pretty good deal on it. It has a sight, stabilizer, peep sight, and 5 ICS arrows with it (3 broadheads) I haven't shot any bows since I was a kid in Boyscouts, so i'm pretty green when it comes to this stuff. Anyway I have a question. It has an old North American Archery sight on it, and all the pins are loose and down at the bottom. What is a good baseline to set the pins at? I have a friend who is going to help me through the basics and hopefully refresh my memory, but he's out of town for the next week and I wanted to get the bow base lined tuned using the instructions I found on this awesome forum. Thanks, Justin
First thing I'd do is THROW that sight away and go get ANY sight you can find at the local archery shop, or even at Wal-mart and start over..... Sorry, but that thing is junk, and you're just better off starting with a NEW sight vs. messing with that sight. You can get new sights as cheap as $15 up to $200 +, but even the CHEAPEST new sight is going to be a better set up.
If you wanted to try with that site nock a arrow on your string and have it on the rest. Look straight down your string to the tip of your arrow. Line your pins up with your string to make sure they are all aligned. This isn't where your pins would stay but it is close. Than leave your pins where they are and just shoot at ten yards sight your top pin in at ten. Once sighted in at ten you can shoot that same pin at twenty and it should be close. Space your pins out about a 1/4" and try that at 30. Once you have a 20 and a 30 pin use that same space to estimate your 40. Remember when sighting in your pins you always follow tour arrow. If your missing high move your pin up. Missing left move the pin left
Thank you so much for the help! I will definitely try that as soon as I pick up my target to practice with. I do want to get a new sight eventually, but I think I need to at least shoot the bow first before buying a new sight for it.
Welcome to the site and what jayb22 said will definetely get you started. Remember to move your pins in the direction of where your arrow hits. If it hits left of where your aiming move your pin left same for up down or right. Just shoot a couple times first before moving your pin to make sure your arrows are shooting the same pattern.
