Hey all I am new here but thought I would share my frist archery deer I got this Sunday the 11th. Well, I went out this Sunday morning, it was my 10th day out. I said I wanted to at least get a buck, since it would be my first archery deer and I can only shoot one deer this year. But I was getting to the point were I would settle for a buck with no antlers or male organs.:D I was out this morning in a stand on the edge of my small football sized field. It was cold... I watched about 6 deer total out in the bean field eating and meandering around about 200 yards away- forgot my binocs. They finally had enough and walked into the neighbors swamp land and vanished into the tall grass. I was losing hope since I figured they were heading in for the day since it was about 740, and they just went into the thick stuff. About 20 minutes later a buck appears on the edge of the swamp grass were all the other deer had just gone in. He stands there for a while, then starts his glorious journey right towards my stand. He gets to the edge of the swamp closest to me, so he is about 60 yards out in tall grass. I can see he has at least a few points so I figure he was good enough for me. He starts out of the swamp right towards me. I believe he is going into my woods were I have seen alot of rubs, which I believe are his. He stops 50 yards out and turns right around and goes back into the tall swamp grass. I can still see him so I do the only thing I can which is scream at him with my buck grunt call. He looks back, stops and amazingly turns right back towards me. He comes right into my field and walks right under my stand as I stand at full draw. He gets about 15 yards out following my woods line towards the trail, and I let my G5 Striker fly. Hit him a little far back on a slight quartering away shot. He tucked his tail between his legs and jogged back into the swamp grass. I watched him fall about 40 yards in. Called the landowner, and got permission. Went in a got him, and he was the junky buck I had on trail cam a month ago. Not a monster, but not too bad. Has some character. Remember these trail cam pics are 2009 not 05. Thanks for reading
Congrats on your first archery kill and nontheless a nice buck for starters!!! I just managed to tag my first buck with the bow this past weekend too, but mine was a dink compared to yours, I am still very proud of him tho since it only took me ten yrs to shoot a buck!:D
