Hey all, I am new here and I actually joined to ask a question. I have not purchased a new bow for years and I think it's about time I pulled the trigger on a new one. I hunt primarily from ground blinds, with an occassional trip up a tree. Money is not an object as I want a bow that will last me for many years to come. So what say ye...... I am leaning towards the Matthews Z7xtreme because of it's compact design. Are there any others out there that I ought to take a look at. Thanks for the help!
IMHO, I'd shoot every bow and model I could get my hands on. The quest for a new bow can be as fun or more so than the actual purchase. I definitely would not limit myself to one brand. One man's treasure may be another man's trash. I know opinions vary but I am not a big fan of super short bows. I prefer a bow of 33" to 35" for hunting but I must admit some 32" bows I have shot were extremely stable. There again it depends on the bow and the shooter. Shoot enough bows over a long enough period that the bow actually chooses you. You will be much Happier! Dan
As mentioned, a short AtoA bow and one with a nice smooth draw (usually always sitting down) would be your best bet. Try many bows out and see which one floats your boat. As for the Z7extreme I dont think you will be dissapointed with your decesion. Yes as you can see I do shoot a Mathews (not a fan boy), but I have always liked the simplicity of a single cam bow. Just be sure to try several different bows before making your final decision.
Thanks guys, the guy at th shop where I do most of my shooting recommended the Z7x because I usually hunt in a blind in a seated position. I am going to go and shoot some bows today. Unfortunately the shop I go to does not have Hoyt. I would like to try the Matthews, Diamond, Bowtech, and the Hoyt, all at the same time. But I will have to do some driving today to check em all out. Thanks agin for the help so far.
It's well worth the drive and the time spent to shoot different bows. Compare Draw lengths, not all factory draw lengths are as stated. Even chrono them if they have a graph to get an idea of speeds shooting head to head. Hopefully you will get to shoot a Hoyt crx 32 and an Element, also if you can find a Diamond in stock shoot it. There are a few Outlaws around here, but have yet to see a Dead Eye. Let us know how it goes! Dan
As many said, I'd definitely shoot as many bows as you can get your hand on, especially if you're going to be getting a bow that you plan on lasting you several years. You want to make sure you're as happy as you can possibly be with it.
My first stop was the Matthews z7xtreme and it is the quietest and fastest bow I have EVER shot. I called my friend who is a very avid bow hunter and asked him to come and shoot it just in case I was just amped up. He confirmed my findings and he will be getting one too. I was totally blow away by this bow. It just felt right from the get go. Now to deck her out and get her ready for the ball. Thanks again for the suggestions.
If you havne't gotten one yet, the PSE bow madness XS might be something to look into, it has a 29.25 in ATA, it's a little slower than the z7x but a little cheaper as well.
